Default Any Doctors in the house

I have an 8yr old son, who is slim and plays a lot of sport.
When he was younger the hospital picked up that he had an irregular heart beat / heart mummer i think it was called. This scared myself and my wife to death, so went private and saw a doctor at the local private hospital.
They said that it was common and nothing at all to worry about.

However today my wife was training on her cross trainer and both my wife and i have a heart monitor figure or around 76 before training.
But my son climbed on and it read around 100 to 110. he had done no exercise
and was a normal pace...

is this correct a child of 8 having 100 to 110 bmp ??? As its not got us thinking back to when he was little ??

The average resting heart rate in children starts high and continues to decrease until the normal adult range of 60-100. The normal range for an 8 year old at rest is about 70-110. With exercise, however, this can increase to 200.

As for an irregular heartbeat , I have one but doesnt cause me any problems.

Hope this helps!

Sounds about right to me too.
Also you have to allow for the fact of was he excited about getting on it etc. That can have an effect.

From the days of my blood pressure clinic tests, my BP and HR were always elevated through the worry of it.
When you tell a kid to stand still and wait for their heart rate to appear, most will slow their breathing, even hold their breath, also affecting it.

Same here! know for years and it's never caused me any issues my asthma has given me grief but not my heart.

There not as incommon as you might think and i'd imagine there are hundreds of thousands that have same condition and haven't ever known about it.

Just as an afterthought, my sister has a heart murmur, which was diagnosed when she was 3 (In 1973) and it has never bothered her. She is obviously 38 now, soon to be 39 and it has never once had any effect. She ran cross country at national level until she was in her 30's plus swam for England schoolgirls in the mid-80's.

I honestly believe that knowing about the murmer has actually spurred her on to be fit and healthy.
