Couriers and packaging
I've got a couple of sets of alloys/tyres and a welder (in it's original packaging) that I'm going to be selling on eBay soon but as I've never really sent stuff of this size before I've got no idea how to package them up for the courier. Any advice would be welcome.
Also, who's the best courier to use? Do need to have an account or anything?

alloys with tyres....
Cut a disc of thick card the right diameter to cover each alloy face to prevent knocks. Tape this in place, then wrap each wheel in a giant bin-bag and tape it up securely. If they are very valuable/fragle etc, then wrap in an old sheet before the bingbag.
Depending on size and weghts, it may be possible to send them as 2 packages rather than 4 - just tape them together face to face with card inbetween, then wrap as above with plastic.
If the welder is in its original box, I would just leave it as is.
I used to use UK Courier Services, Express Parcel Delivery & International Shipping without problems. They arrange a courier to collect from your home/workplace. Alternatively, choose one of the other courier firms and take the parcels to your local depot to send them.

we use TNT at work with no problems and regularly send boxes at 50-60kg.
they do however have the nickname of "toss 'n' throw"
there have been threads before about which company to use and you'll find chaps/chappettes on here that have had both good and bad service from pretty much all the courier companies.
I personally think it depends on where you are. we are just outside Reading and the drivers we get are excellent without exception, but whoever the fcukwit depot is that deals with Crawley break everything without fail!
