How is the roof vent fitted? Looks as though water has collected there and got under the paint. I'm guessing held on by that double-sided foam tape and the vent moving around has worn the paint allowing the water to get under it.

Looks nasty. They'll have to remove the vent (I'm assuming it isn't a functional one) and remove all the rusty stuff. Depending on how much metal is left you may need a section cutting out and a new bit welded in. After that, bit of filler, prime and paint. Going to be a fair few ££. Lesson learned....

i think its been a damaged roof and then vent fitted (that is if you have bought the car with the vent on and not what you have stuck on yourself)

as i do know a couple of people that have stuck roof vents on to cover marks and damage underneath

How can you only just have noticed this? It must have been bubbling for ages to get that bad!

The chicken wire grill has penetrated the paint and the rust has worked its way down to the screen.

Doesnt take long for rust to eat away under the paint.

Pretty straight forward repair...IMHO £180-£220 all in, you may even get a chips away guy to have a bash at it.

When you replace your scoop run a full length of 3x6MM double sided closed cell neoprene autobody tape on all touching surfaces.

Is the windscreen surround an MOT fail?

I'd get it sorted sooner than later either way TBH.

Don't think of it as a rusty roof, just think of it as one of them metal folding roof convertibles, except it takes a while for the roof to go down

Looks like it goes under the seal and that's bad news. My first Impreza had had a windscreen replaced and some idiot had scored the paint taking the old one out and just put the new windscreen/seal over it. The paint corroded and was working its way back up the roof (much like yours is). The only way to correct it 100% is to take the windscreen out and paint underneath it as even painting under the seal would still leave an edge for water to attack. As the windscreen is bonded there's a half-decent chance it'll break if you try to remove it

In the end I found a "best of a bad spot" solution. It involved a hammer, a screwdriver and a quiet country lane...I'll say no more! You can remove the seal and conduct a repair but don't be surprised if the problem returns.

The first post on this thread reads like a Japanese instruction booklet:

"If sound have become disappeared, please to ensure speaker systems are not disconnect".

my car (my97) went on the rubber seal on the roof line,
scrapped it back, primed it and filled it and painted etc.

lots of cars seem to go like it.

Ok so if anyone is still looking at this review from a while back about Panelcare in Rochdale then please don't expect the service that may have been offered in the past.

The workmanship from this establishment is what I can only describe as appalling.

My car was polished all over and now is covered in swirl marks, overspray on various parts, peeling paint in sheets from the sills to name but a few errors. Yes it has been back to them for first rectification and now the paint peels off. Oh also instead of wiping of waxoyle panelcare think it can just be sprayed over.

AVOID!!!
