Nothing new there.
My mates brother was in the M.E.T and used to brag that him and few other coppers used to sit in umarked vans outside clubs. They would wait for a single straggler to walk by and they would pull them into the van and beat the hell out them.
The same ***** got caught beating up a suspect {who was in handcuffs} after a routine stop. It went to court he lost his job and 18 months in the nick.
At the end of the day, you get some great coppers, some that are ***** and some that shouldnt be in the job as they are thugs with an uniform on.

20st...Thats a big ol unit. Special indeed.
Chuckled at the fact he actually got convicted of assault etc and had to pay compo and that the people that viewed the footage agreed with the charges.
Looks like video evidence isn't enough, well not until more people see it.

I'm sure he is not the innocent war hero veteren that he is being made out to be
And a hero to me is someone who risked his life saving others - like a lifeboat man ....... not a squaddie who just went where he was told to go.
Quote:-
"The footage opens with an unsteady Mark drunkenly standing in the street and calling out to the officers"
Calling out saying what?? I guarantee it wasn't "What a lovely buch of coppas!"
Maybe he didn't deserve a kicking .... maybe he did?

It all looked ok other than the head-banging and sly digs he was given. No need for that.
He did bite and that may have been why he got punched - to make him let go. Can't really tell from the footage.

I think that's terrible.
The problem is that some Police officers don't think fairly, and some of them have serious ego's. I think that clouds their judgement.
Although to be totally fair, people in all walks of life have inflated ego's.

This guy got charged with public order offences for swearing at the police. Jesus, they swear like troopers on tv, id like to see joe public get THEM convicted for it.
The problem is, the police know the courts will believe whatever **** and bull story they come up with, especially when theres 3 of em telling the same preconceived BS jackanory. The more they do it and get away with it, the more they will continue to do it.
And whats going to happen to the judge who totally fcuked up the verdict in the first place?

The way the story unfolds as you read more and more actually makes it quite interesting...
There is the mirrors slant - Innocent brave war vet get beaten up for doing nothing wrong by 3 malicious evil coppers. From the headline you wouldnt be wrong for thinking before his arrest he was in a meadow painting flowers, conversing with the birds.
Then there is the counter slant - Drunken yob approached by police is chased, caught, shouts drunken somethingorothers at 3 policeman who make a rather rough and somewhat unfair arrest. Drunken yob complains about his arrest by biting a copper, which is about as scummy and obscene an assault as can be. Drunken yob takes a splattering and gets thrown in the cell for biting an officer of the law.
Anyman that goes around biting policemen is likely to be assaulted by them...
Just because some folk signed up to be a soldier and survived a posting or two in the middle east doesnt mean they are all perfect citizens...

Bollocks. This guy was pinned to the floor by THREE coppers, for what? Swearing at them, big deal, these coppers swear at people every day of there lives. I'd like to see what would happen if three members of the public pinned a copper down on the floor for swearing at them.
Total over-reaction by the police and im glad someone at the appeal court could see it. Shame the orginial judge didnt have the ***** to throw this out of court the first time!

"The footage shows Mark pinned to the floor for a total of five minutes and 16 seconds."
So what you see on the website is just the highlights then.
Police officers are human after all, and you'll get good ones and bad ones. It would appear from the article and the video, that this guy, who freely admits to being drunk and abusive, ended up getting dealt with by 3 of the not so good ones, who were already on the lookout for a troublemaker. They thought they'd found him, so they didn't, understandably, believe the "It wasn't me". The situation spiraled out of control, and the guy got a good leathering. However, the amount and type of force used by the officers seems disproportionate, and excessive. Officers SHOULD be able to use physical force when necessary, but it should be appropriate. The most worrying fact is that that the original case was brought, when the evidence seems so compelling.

I see we have some squaddies rating posts today
On the radio it said that this was not the first time the guy was known to the police......can't remember what they said now, nor can I find an article on it.

The copper was bitten but these guys are suppose to be professionals,And to Protect and serve the Community. If every copper acted like this everytime they gotten bitten by some drunk on a weekend or whatever,we would propably have most of the force up in court.we know coppers have to get a little heavy handed at times with the drunken idiots they have to deal with. But this guy wasn't even the person they were after.Say these coppers had them taser guns, would all three of them be electrocuting him at the same time.

i saw this on the news last night and i was appauled at what i was seeing.ok so someone is shouting whatever at 3 policemen,at the end of the day the police get paid to remove such people from the streets and deal with them how the law states.i really dont think there was any need for the arsehole coppers to bang his head on the floor, rub his face on the tarmac, punch him 8 times and all the rest of it that they did.what was wrong with handcuffing the man locking him up for the night and sentancing him the next day.total police brutallity is all i can say.

I think it's fair game. Act like a ****......get your head rubbed in the road.
Seriously, why are we sticking up for the guy? He broke the law, and he got punished. If we had more police like this, I'm sure we'd see a reduction in drunken crime.
And come on, he's a squaddie. Probably in the Pioneer core
