Special Needs Pets - Thursday C4..
I can't believe noone has commented on this show yet!!
The programme which featured animals with all manner of disablements and health issues - but which the owners refuse to consider euthanising.
I was appalled at what some of these animals have to go through I even cried at some of the stories.
The cat whose owner dangles it over the toilet several times a day to 'express it' after being hit by a car. It then has to wear a nappy at night.
or the bunny who has lost control of its rear - no feeling or use in its legs, and is incontinent - the woman ordered a bunny wheelchair for it and puts it in nappies..!! I
I did laugh at the woman with the parrot who kept masturbating on things - including her head! She said that when the bird started to display its courtship at her 'she felt rotten as she couldn't fulfil his needs...' !!

Anyways - My bro-in-law is a vet and sees these kinds of deranged owners on a daily basis. I worked for him for a while and will never forget one particular person. He had an Old English Sheepdog that got hit by a bus. Bus went over its back legs turning them into OES stew. The rest of the dog was uninjured, but there weren't any back legs to repair Vet said that there was nothing could be done and PTS was the only reality. Owner insisted that the remainder of the back legs be amputated, then made a contraption from a zimmer frame and a shopping trolley to allow the dog mobility. Dogs that don't use their back legs get constipated, so a few weeks after the amputation, vet said PTS was the only reality. Owner insisted on a colostomy. Short of a court order, vet could only give advice and follow owners instructions as the dog wasn't in pain. That was in 1996. I still see that poor dog trailing its shopping trolley thing down Lisburn road every morning. Sometimes I think I should just swerve and run down the owner
