Default How to ??

Bit of a difficult one this i think without added cost.

Purchased a fax machine for the house, so that i can get additional stuff sent when i need it blah blah.

Anyway main phone line is in a different room, i have an extension running under the floors to the office which has a phone & also my router connection in it but when i connect the fax machine the phone doesnt work.

Any ideas ?

I just want to run them from the one number so dont want to add another line.

TIA

Does it work when connected to the main telephone socket?

Also, some fax machine take advantage of that BT service that gives you a new mumber/different ring tone without having an additional line. Long shot but might work.

Have you got a double extension socket in the office? If so, what happens when you swap phone and fax, does the fax then not work instead of the phone?

That would indicate one side of the extension socket is faulty.

Does th fax not have a socket for a telephone?

Yeah got double extension. When both plugged in there is no dial tone on either. When either one is plugged in they both work.

The fax does have an ext 2 port. I'll investigate tomorrow, thanks for your pointers.

Have you seen the fax to email services around? You get a free number and faxes sent to it are delivered to your email account. Of course you can't send paper docs in the other direction.
