Default Anyone do Taekwondo on here?

Just started doing the above and my instructor says to get some hand wraps.

I don't particularly want to have those as I can't be arsed putting them on. Any one know of an alternative?

Meant to ask my instructor but he run off before I could grab him

One of my good friends is in his 5th week at the Shaolin Temple kicking bottom and waving big sticks after running up mountains
Not sure if that is kung fu or tiekwandough but before he went away I knew I could duff him up but now I am not so sure... I will look at his latest pics on facebook and see if he is wearing mittens...

Seriously, I haven't a flippin clue

Could try shaving your palms daily... could stimulate excess hair growth which could act as padding?

even when i did it (sooooo long ago!) there was a worry when you started on breaking stuff. You get the odd knuckle going pop or some muppet leading with the second knuckles rather than flat.

Plus if you're doing the one / three step sparring the odd.... mishap may occur

step, block, counter, whoops!

My 'problem' was that I was also being shown techniques by mates doing other martial arts and I'd sometimes forget which bit went with what. This all kind of came to a head when we were told "try out anything you think might work" and I ended up throwing a guy clean across the room....

Hi Scooblou.

I train taekwondo currently and use both wraps and fingerless gloves.
If you need to support your hand / wrist then wraps are ideal. i just bought a pair to help with breaking. If you have a weak hand / wrist wraps will add stability to your hand, protect your knuckles and support your wrist.

Fingerless gloves are ideal for a bit of protection whilst training/ breaking.
You could wear wraps under your gloves as well if you want the protection + support.

cheers

Paul

You've just started and they already suggest hand wraps?!
Did 7 years kickboxing, and several national competitions (with some good results) and never wrapped my hands. Gloves yes. Wraps - for gays.

As explained in a previous post, I need support for my weaker right hand and I can't see how I could be classed as gay

Hi Paul, thanks for that.

I will go with both to give me extra support for my right hand.

I'm really enjoying it and guy teaching us is a semi professional cage fighter, has real big arms

Shirley if you were fighting in competition your hands are wrapped like a boxer? I Thai box and hands are wrapped like a traditional boxer. I wrap my hands even for pad work because otherwise i bruise my knuckles, but that maybe because I'm a punch hard?

You must be gay then

Just kidding, I think its sensible to have something to protect your hands, injury or no injury to possibly avoid injury, does that make sense
