Just bought a new daily run around. tax issues
Right so i've bought a cheapo car to get me from a to b on my 80 mile daily comute. the car i bought wasnt taxed so obviously i had money ready to tax it.
ive paid for the car, phoned up and insured it and then drove it home and parked it in the layby near my house on sunday.
i cannot tax it until my insurance documents come through which will hopefully be here soon, but this morning when i left to go to uni i noticed a leaflet under the windscreen wiper
its a police notice of having no tax.
now i know its not suposed to be on the road but i have just bought it and am not driving it until i get tax sorted, and parking it in the layby is hardly doing anybody any harm atall.
the notice says i could face a fine? is this correct?
what are the terms on taxing a vehicle you have just bought? i thought that ther would be a few days of exception??

iirc they cant give you points for no tax, they can fine you and make you pay the back duty,~get ya tax and write to them explaining your situation,
They are within there rights as you may have no intention of taxing it, they dont know that.

Prosecuted by the DVLA through the local VRO. They can have you, but in my experience the most theyd do if you didnt tax back to the date of purchase was send a conditional offer (ie pay us this and we wont prosecute).
