HTC Mobiles?
Does anyone have one of these phones?
I was looking at getting the HTC Touch Diamond (or O2's renamed version anyway), anyone got one of these and could comment what they are like?
Was thinking of the iphone too but for what my contract charges are I would be looking at silly money and I could get the HTC Touch Diamond for bit over £100 from O2.
I see they are bringing out the HD model but i'm guessing this would be silly money too.
Any info appreciated

I've been using the Vodafone variant for work and in general it is a good bit of kit. The battery life isn't fantastic but I do take many pictures during the day and have to then forward these on using our companies software on the phone so it is working quite hard. Also the most annoying thing is that a comes with a leather protective cover, now if you get a call and attempt to take it out of said cover it 9 times out of 10 cuts the person off! I have it set to the least sensitivity and it still does it.

HTC build quality is awful, they literally come apart in your hand after a couple of months. We used to use them as the standard handset for our senior managers and higher. We got all but one back in bits.

I have the HTC TD, battery life is porr but turning off 3G helps massively. Where I live 3G is sporadic and the hunting round drains the battery.
the PITA with it is the call dialer they use which shows an "answer" button on the face when a call comes in, if you grab it out of your pocket it's easy to answer or decline by mistake.
I fixed it by downloading a custom locking application and an advanced config tool which allows you to revert the dialer back to standard.

I've been using HTC phones for several years now and all stand up to physical abuse and ROM changes.
I'd also wait for the HD to come out - the TD was a quick response to the Iphone and deosn't quite hit the mark - battery life, memory size and lack of external memory capability.

I've an HTC TD and frankly love it.
Deals with my work diary. collect and send emails, browse the net, use it for digital dictation and run my satnav on it.
Took a bit of getting used to but I think thats due to me getting old
Interested to know what apps there are for it

Battery life is a bit short but mine is always on charge via the sync cable when I'm in the office so doesn't really bother me.
I have a 4gb micro sd card in mine so a bit puzzled about your "lack of external memory capability" comment

Stunning bit of kit.
Had one for a few months now, and they are ridiculously good. Endless things to do to keep you entertained.
Mines got Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel, a YouTube application, and you can connect to the 'net via your wi-fi. And that's just a few things.
4GB of internal storage, so its basically a mini-computer.
Well worth the money.

Posting using it now and think its great! It really improves if you use one of the custom roms from xda developers, a bit like getting your scooby remapped
might not be as user friendly as some phones, but is much smaller than the iphone and other windows mobiles. You can get loads of software and tweak it a lot though. Only downside for me is lack of external storage.

Thanks for the reply's
Not really a fan of the blackberry's, dont really need the full qwerty keyboard (hardly ever use it to send e-mails) and would prefer something a bit smaller.
I currently have a Nokia N95 so im use to having a phone where the battery life isn't great (as mentioned by many people) but it's never really caused me any issues, I also flashed that to improve the software.
I like the look of the HTC HD but I suspect when it does come out it will be some what more than what I want to pay for a phone (my contract will only be £20-£30 per month depending what I go for) so the phone would probably be a good few hundred pounds.
The HTC diamond seems to fit in well for me, not too big, not too expensive, good features and plenty of software/apps to play with and as far as i can see, for my budget, there isn't much else that comes close.
Space wise, 4Gb will be plenty for me so the space isn't an issue either

If you are not happy with the N95 battery, you are not gonna get much of an improvement from the HTC mate.
The N96 has a good improvement on the 95 though, and there is always the Nokia 5800 when that comes out lol. (bit low spec though)
As a whole though, if your happy with touchscreen, the Diamond is lovely, no doubt about that at all.

Im not un-happy with the battery life on my N95, i just meant there seemed to be a lot of people moaning about it when it came out but for me its never really been an issue (charge it about once a week). But then i dont spend hours on it which probably helps

Build quality is fine, never had a problem and I've owned loads of HTC made stuff and regularly drop or throw them about.
Battery is OK but not amazing.
Plenty of software customisation to be had and does the job generally for all my email, internet, Mobile Office and calling needs. Also handy if I want to use the on board satnav if I haven't got my garmin with me.
Same as choosing a car really, give one a go and see what you think.

Eh? I don't have to use the stylus for much on mine. Maybe you have massive fingers

How very dare you
pmsl Oh yes, I am a dainty wee thing, lol
I just found that mine tends to be able to tell where the centre of the weight of the finger is coming from when I'm usng web, clicking on links etc.
I can't use fingers for texting or writing docs though, stylus for that, as even my dainty digits fail there
My small hands do make my ***** look feckin' huge when I hold it though
