i want to buy my mates private plate
hes going on holls needs cash asap so ive offered him 500 for his plate, but wants the 105 ontop to put on retention which im trying to do a deal on with him
the other private plate i bought is on retention but im only the nominee which is ok but id rather be the grantee
can this be done ie put straight into my name ? will we both have to pop down to our dvla office?

I have never been very clear on how this works tbh but I sold a car a while back with my private plate on it.
I asked the guy to put it onto retention as he was putting his own plate on and I took the fee out of the sale cost and he sent me the retention cirt which had his name on it. I went to the DVLA and put it back on my new car and they did not ask any questions? Then, I took it off again recently (gets costly!!) and when the retention cirt came through it had my name on it not his???
