I totally agree with what they have done, however I do hope that it does not attract every speed freak into the area, and then they start racing...
...the PC brigade would just love a few boy racers to stack there cars in a big crash to justify why they should have speed cameras.
Now is the time to drive like saints to make the figures better without the cameras

errrr the govt announced years ago it was funding any more speed cameras.
I personally haven't seen any new ones go up in years now.
unless perhaps we're talking about motorway specs ones perhaps etc.

This includes the mobile cameras used by the "safety" partnership, however the Police may still perform speed enforcement using speed traps.

its all a joke really- we've got areas in Bradford where 60% of all motorists have no insurance.
yet I have to watch my speed ?? Police can't even get people to drive in accordance with the law here in any shape or form.
mind you the police did recently seize 80 cars and arrest 16 of the drivers due to other issues last week in a campaign.

Yet another example of progressive Tory government in action. Hopefully once they are fully elected they can roll out this scheme country wide.
Who says there's no difference between the parties?

More driver education, better lighting and junction layouts etc according to the press.

I was concerned that there would be an influx of speed humps and the like.

Many speed limts are broken as the limits have been set ridiculously low, and therefore ignored. Several main routes that I regularly use have been reduced by up to 20 mph; routes which have had the same limit for decades and decades are all of a sudden deemed dangerous.
Seems the Mary Whitehouse type of people see this as their new mission in life.
The big local gov't campaign launced for a review of speed limits said at the time that it wasn't a tool for a blanket reduction speeds and that some limits may rise, what utter rubbish. I've never in my life seen a speed limit being raised for a road.
It looks suspiciously like they have reduced the limits to raise revenue and not targeting inappropriate speed and poor driving in general.

It's a farce and the world is going mental .
Everyone accepts speed isn't the only killer on the road, but a speeding driver is a driver either incapable of adhering to the laws of the road, or a driver who thinks they are above the laws of the road. Either way it is a clear indication of inability or arrogance. There is no reason not to punish it, just like there is no reason not to punish those who hold mobile phones when driving, those who drink drive or those who have moustaches or mullettts.
More traffic police would be awesome and it is a shame that the good work that speed cameras do in other counties isnt used to fund them, thus creating the perfect cycle of road safety and traffic law compliance.

...or many other things apart from "speeding". There is an increasing number of incapable drivers on our roads, due to poor training, illegal drivers (no licence or insurance) or poor enforcement of truly dangerous driving - which speeds cameras can't enforce!
Anyway, enjoy your "perfect cycle", without having to be insured, taxed, displaying a number plate, have adequate lighting at night, run red lights, mount the pavement - and generally be "above the laws of the road"
