Plasma, LCD, or what?

Plasma, LCD, or what?
After finally changing my old PC for a new one, complete with LCD monitor, (Acer), I'm now thinking of replacing the 32" TV, (Toshiba).
So.............what's recommended? Plasma, or LCD, or wait foir the next technology?
And more specifiacally, who makes a decent one, of whichever?
I don't watch enough to want to pay £1000's, but do like the occasional film, and football.
TIA, Alcazar

Most movie fans prefer plasma, although the latest LCD's are very close. Pioneer are usually regarded as the best, but Panssonics are almost as good for a bit less cash. If I were buying now it'd probably be from the Panasonic PZ81 range with 1,000,000:1 c/r, 1080p, 24fps, FreeSat and Freeview in 42, 46 and 50" for £1000 to £1500.

I've just heard (not the latest news for the people in the "know".. but I've only just heard!!) Panasonic have purchased ALL of Pioneer's plasma tech and are using it to develop the 10th Gen plasmas.
Pioneer have stopped developing their plasmas now... so if u want vfm... the new Panasonic's are currently the market leaders... with the "old school" Pioneer Kuro 508 series being the best plasma if you've got some more dosh..

Ive got a sharp 46" 1080p LCD which is spot on in every way I recently bought a 42" samsung plasma for the bedroom and im also impressed with that - the colours are much deeper on the plasma but TBH either will will be fine - plasma are slightly cheaper
the only thing I hate is the plastic surround as almost all TVs have like a 2" one my sharp is tiny at less then a inch

Meh, OLED and all that is a coming but I wouldn't let that bother you. Spend 600 quid on a 50" samsung plasma and replace it in 3 years. Don't ride the wave man!

As DW said... Pioneer have pulled out of the Plasma market race.... Panasonic could undercut their prices with similar equipment... so they've sold up.

Mentioned it a few times on here. Got a 32" Samsung LCD, a Panasonic surround sound/dvd system and glass stand for a very good price last christmas in the sales.
Welcome to come round and have a gander if you want to see the picture quality for football/movies etc.

If you like your footy and you're not into xbox and HD dvds then theres some relative bargains to be had, I've gone for a non 1080 (is it 768?) 42" plasma that had good reviews, bought from John Lewis with 5 year warrenty for less than £650 all in.
Fantastic picture, no bleeding of colours with the footy, even on std SD Sky.
This was about 6 months ago, I did a lot of research and the general concenus was plasma was better than LCD £ for £ for watching football at 37" and above.
At the time I was thinking of a similarly priced 40" Samsung LCD when fortunately my neighbour bought the 37" version, so I had a look - all I can say is I'm glad I didn't go with the LCD - my plasma is much better.

From what I've been reading over on the AV forums, Pioneer are only going to be using Panasonic glass for their 10th gen sets and onwards. The rest will still be full Pioneer. The 5090/6090 series are the best sets from Pioneer so far. Have a 6090 myself.

Its more of a collaboration. Pioneer were finding it too expensive to manufacture their own glass even though they have always been a niche brand and priced accordingly. So they join forces with Panasonic who I believe are the largest panel producer in the world. Tbh Im not sure if that simply means Pana do the manufacturing for Pio to Pio specs or if Panasonic get to use it some of their tech in theirs.
Either way no more plasma <50" as 10th Gen will be LCD based. Main reason I got a 8th Gen 42" before they all got bought up. Well happy with it.

Pioneer have just released their latest plasma range. The KRP model set. They are also co-producing LCD sets with Panasonic now using a lot of the Pioneer tech know how that made their plasma range so great. I've got a Pioneer plasma, the PDP-LX508D. Absolutely stunning performance. SD sources are great and HD sources out of this world.

A friend of mine has just bought an Infocus digital projector. It's astonishing!!
Even projected onto his living room wall its incredible. He's using a PS3 as a blu ray player but the standard HDMI lead is pants. He's replaced that with a high end one and the difference is night and day.
Probably one of the most clearest sharpest pictures I've ever seen.
