Default Beer Machine - blokes only thread!

Got me one of these babies today:

Beer Machine model 2000 - Lazybone

Costco have them in. £81 for the machine plus enough to make about 70 pints. 50p a pint time

First brew is settling in this evening. Got it sitting in the living room, so hopefully its not going to let off too many drunken fart type aromas over the next few days as you're not supposed to move it

I'm expecting my first batch in about 10 days. Seems a lot easier that those complex home brew kits out there. The proof will be in the tasting I suppose.

It's possible to make sustaining food out of waste. I'd rather not.

home brew wine is the only one i've done with any success, turned out quite nice and didn't strip the roof of my mouth as expected

did my first home brew lager at about 14, maybe that explains my hair loss now. Facking evil stuff, flat as a pancake but good for hallucinations

My last effort at Stout resulted in me having to repaint the living room ceiling. Stuff was so gassy it burst the plastic bottles that came with the kit. The few I got to taste were okay, (not good enough to worry Guiness), and worked out quite expensive when you add in the cost of a decorator and carpet cleaner

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something went wrong in your brewing process!

Its an itch that I just had to scratch and a proper bloke really has to try brewing his own at some point in his life IMO

I used to brew my own stuff many moons ago. I think I did it for a couple of years.

Stopped, as I found myself passing out on the stuff as I didn't know what I was doing and it was probably and 10% abv.

The fact it tasted like **** didn't help either

I doubt that stuff will taste any good - and with booze from the shops so cheap I couldn't be bothered with it.

Let us know what it's like when it's ready??

Good luck with it - do let us know how it comes out. But if it's rubbish, don't give up on brewing entirely, just do it properly instead. Here's how!

I'd quite like to brew pure Ethanol if any knows where to get a kit. Not for drinking, obviously.

Well the first batch was a disaster. I gave it 5 days to ferment as recommended, but I think the water must have been too cold. Apparantly this can prevent the yeast from doing its stuff and I did just use cold water from the tap. There's also conflicting instructions as to when to put the yeast in, which doesn't help.

Poured it out and there was zero pressure and just a gloopy mess at the bottom of the tank

Next brew is on now though, with some warmer water and the yeast added at an earlier stage. Fingers crossed.

get over here- Jim's Homebrew Forum plenty of advice tips and recipes, when you get the hang of it its better than pub or shop beer and you can brew near identical copies of most available beers/lagers and stouts from about 30p a pint with no preservatives or other crap in.

I hope you had some cans in the fridge tonight .

It's a bugger when a batch goes Pete Tong - I had a few that went bent.
