Default Life insurance question

I'm just about to come off my 3 year mortgage deal, and have arranged to see my bank tomorrow to sort out another one. She said to me to bring my mortgage details, contents insurance and my life insurance! the problem is, I've never had life insurance - didn't know I had to have it, or do I?? Is it compulsory to take it out or what???

It's normally reccomened because if you die , your life insurance will cover it and they not have to kick your greiving wife out the house because she can't afford the repayments and also the bank don't loose out.

I think that's true I'm no mortgage expert lol

You might already have it and not realise it! Premium could be within your mortgage payment?
