Default How Much!!!

Just about to start building an extension on the side of my house. Been told that I have to move my gas supply & meter.
So get the forms and guess how much it's going to cost to move the meter 4 meters further back ON THE EXISTING SUPPLY PIPE?

£930.00

I then also have to pay to have my internal pipework modified!!!

National Grid. Ripping off B@stards......

I just got quoted nearly £400 to fit 4 radiators, two to existing pipework with minor alterations and two with new tap-ins All of about 4 hours work and under 10m of new pipework. Needless to say I shall be seeking alternative quotes or DIY'ing

DIY not an option to you though I suppose

I can beat that. Moving two rads, pipes already in place (just moving them a few feet along and the pipes are in front of the skirting) ...

£500 + VAT. That includes the cost of two new rads which will be about £100 +VAT.

So £400 + VAT for what can be 2 - 3 hours work?

There was an article on the radio yesterday about DIY coming back into fashion in a big way. It's not surprising with prices like that ! It seems these days everybody wants to make a weeks wages in 3 hours and then toss it off the rest of the week

Trouble is regulations.

I am not allowed to move it. I'm not allowed to move the boiler, I'm not allowed to do my own electrics in my own f'ckin house.....

The building control officer won't sign the build off until he gets his certificates!

The list goes on.

Fvck all that, if/when I move and need a HIP, all the work was done before I bought the place, and if anyone gets stuffy and tries to impose extra expense on me the house will come off the market and I'll stay put, denying all the related industries (banks/surveyors/estate agents etc) any money from me ever again.

I keep reading how the economy is on a downturn, not surprising if tradesmen are charging £117.50 per hour.

For me (and the people I've had round to quote) it seems if work dries up try a fleece a few people rather than get more work in for less.

Basically, we've got lots of plumbing jobs that need doing. Apart from moving a couple of rads downstairs, some need changing upstairs, need a new bathroom etc. So if I get a decent quote and the work is good they'll end up with a decent amount of work.

Regarding tradesmans prices - give it a few months with no work coming in and I bet you'll find a lot of them giving cheaper quotes.

There's a guy who rides around town near here in his sign written Transit...'DIY Expert'. Kinda missed the point of DIY I reckon!

Maybe he comes to your house, assembles a shelf and then takes it back home?

I wondered if he turns up, tells you to DIY, bills you and then goes home!
