As title: can red suede be dyed black using valeter's dye or something similar?

 

I remember my mum dyeing some suede shoes years ago.

 

Apparently there is dye especially for shoes

I've seen it before, I think, at cobblers etc.

Just read the insructions, particularly about how the colour will turn out, depending on the original colour. I know you have to be careful doing clothes, as it may not dye the colour you want, depending on what you are going over, not sure if it applies to shoe dye.

No idea if you could use a valeter's dye though.

I have a new red suede steering wheel. If possibe Id like to dye it black, but I dont want: a] it to look sh*te, or b] the dye to come out onto the white palms of my gloves.

You fail to comprehend... Its a red Momo suede race wheel. Id prefer a black wheel, obviously, but this was brand new and offered to me at a fraction of the price of a new black one.

Now, Im cheap enough to use this on track days even though it clashes with the car (and me and my gloves everything else), but I will dye it a steady colour if I can get away with it and itll not spoil my gloves.

I hear that suede can come out looking patchy, if dyed.

You can ring the dye selling company, and ask how fast the dye is, for steering wheel cover purpose. Tell them that you don't want to get out of car red-handed

Well: your mentioning shoes has sent me in the right direction. Im thinking about buying some shoe dye off t'internet and having a go. Ive got more Momo wheels than cars anyway...

 

Well at least my post wasn't completely useless after all. Something like that may work well, or even clothes dye, as you would hope it wouldn't rub off onto you/ your gloves.
