I've never been certain about how it worked parking "inside" double yellow lines without touching them. Pepipoo will have more advice to help you out.
Other things to do are to walk to the end of the double yellow lines in both directions. When the lines end they should be a single yellow line across them both forming a "T". This is often missing, and if so the lines are not enforceable. Also, there can be no breaks in the lines for them to be legal. Obviously you need copious pictures if this is the case

Thats no different to parking in a driveway on a street with yellows on, as you are off the road, so should be winable at appeal...
Whats the offence on the ticket? Parking on yellows (which it isnt, in which case its been incorrectly issued) or for something else?

No worries mate
Anything to help out...I hate traffic wardens Still, at least it looks like it was raining. Always nice to know they are having to walk the streets while you are inside

The yellow lines are not "ended" like that because they but onto level crossing road markings not sure if it makes a difference?
I will get a pic of the end of the line.....

The yellow lines are there to stop people obstructing / parking on the highway. AFAIK you are not on the highway so the ticket should be invalid.
There are a few other offences related to parking off road so you would have to check the ticket. If anybody asks you pushed the car there (not using the engine) or you carried it at least 2 feet off the ground wherein the vehicle effectively becomes a parcel LOL

most of the supermarkets and leisure parks etc have private companies that try it on, usually they are signed. Really pisses me off that the DVLA will give out your details and they will then hound you for payment. Basically don't acknowledge anything and they go away. However argue it and they know they have the right address etc and they will keep pushing

As an aside,
From the VCS website:
"By parking and thus ignoring the warning signs the offending motorist has entered into a contractual agreement to pay a penalty charge. We operate our collection procedures under the Administration of justice act 1970."
Now, it may be different in England, but you cannot enter into a contract unilaterally. In which case, that quote in their "legal section" is bollox.
My guess is that you've been "done" by them for parking on private land behind the yellows, not for parking on the yellows.
Write to them and ask by what legal authority they are demanding money from you.

Looks like it's a well documented shower of S***, I think I may well use a few of those letters in that thread and offer to meet them in court.

Gets better
VCS Parking Control Ltd will only deal with disputes from offending motorists in writing at the following address:
VCS Parking Control
West Hill House
6 Swains Lane
London N6 6QS
There does not, however, appear to be any company registered at Companies House under that name.
Cookstar, does the invoice give any more details? Company number, etc?

Definitely ignore it.
Only a court, or a duly appointed officer of the law can issue a legally enforceable fixed penalty notice.
VCS say in their web site that they operate their collection procedures under the "Administration of justice act". I've just had a look at this act, and I may be missing something, but I cannot see anywhere that gives them the power to demand money.
As far as I can see, if you don't pay, there's nothing they can do.
They can't hound you for payment either, as that's an offence under section 40 of the act.
There's a local authority car park near me that has been free to use since it opened in 1976. They now have a free two hour limit (using ANPR camera's), after which they fine you £70. I left my car there for 4 hours one day. Over a week later, I received the £70 fine in the post by recorded delivery. I wrote back saying that it is unlawful for them to fine me, as only a court can do that after being found guilty of an offence reported by a duly appointed officer of the law. That was in April, I've had no other correspondence from them since.

There are signs in the car park at the Dental Hospital in Newcastle which mention that if you park you are entering into a "contractual agreement" with the parking firm.
Mind you, it's impossible to miss the signs as there are about 30 of them !! and another by the pay and display meter !!
