Neck ties........Why???
Why do we wear these damn things?
I’ve had 13 years of being forced to wear one at school and a further 21 years being forced to wear one at work……
They serve no purpose other than acting as something to spill your coffee or lunch on and I reckon it’s only a matter of time before I’m sucked into a printer/laminator or shredder by this neck appendage………
What is their purpose ? (other than appearance, which seems questionable to me)

Totally agree, last tie I wore was for a wedding as a formal occasion, so I guess it allowed me to coordinate with the colour code of the wedding.
Other than that, pointless and im glad I wear jeans and a tshirt to work lol

probably invented by men, for women, to point out their own pen1ses.
but, Wiki says
"The necktie can be traced back to the time of the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) when Croatian mercenaries in French service, wearing their traditional small, knotted neckerchiefs, aroused the interest of the Parisians.[1] The new article of clothing started a fashion craze in Europe where both men and women wore pieces of fabric around their necks. In the late seventeenth century, the men wore lace cravats that took a large amount of time and effort to arrange. These cravats were often tied in place by cravat strings, arranged neatly and tied in a bow.

It would seem that the richer and more powerful you are in those industries that would have traditionally demanded the wearing of a tie, the more likely you are not to be wearing on.
Possibly even wearing jeans with a sport coat (whatever that is)
Oh, and those sort of brown suedey type shoes over trendy chaps in their late 40s wear when they get into their silver porsche because they haven't got the imagination to get anything else.
I for one, can't wait

As you say though, overpriced these days which means you can spot the poor kids by the fact they wear a millets jumper rather than the official item way before you look down and see the half masts and Gola trainers

Have not worn one to work for years, and I work in an industry when in years gone by they were a must. Last time I wore one must have been 15 years ago. My current employer has a smart casual dress code, and I work on a customer site.

I always thought they were a glorified bib.
My other half comes home with his shirt spotless and his flaming tie always has egg or whatever he has consumed that day, on it

I finshed my last job in the dealership thinking that'd be the end of wearing ties but oh no, an appreniship at British Gas put a dampner on that one when I started, they issued the uniform and theres us all thinking we could wear polo shirts but oh no, we found out that it is manditory to wear a tie
Annoying thing is the Academy Manager never wears a tie talk about leading by example...
Only saving grace is that we are qualified and we work in our district we can take it off and hopefully that should be the end of it.

I absolutely hate ties. I am thankful that for the last << lots of >> years I have worked for trendy American companies where ties are not required. I do wear one to go and see clients though.
