That's one of those things used to keep top boxes etc open? The disk bit goes on the inside of the box, the metal bit goes on the inside of the door and is slotted through the disk bit, so when you open the top box it keeps it open till you lift the door and allowes it to close.

its being used for a cubard door which lifts up, but cant figure out if the disc bit needs to be low down or high, and which bit it clips into on the disc

From memory the disk and the hinge bit are kinda level, on my old unit they were about 4" from the top. I think the metal bit just slots through the disk.
