Bourne Ultimatum and I am Legend (Spoilers)
Well I spent a couple of evenings catching up on a few films.
I am Legend - a rehash of 28 days later, set in New York, the one redeaming feature is it's one of the few Hollywood films I've seen where the hero croaks it at the end.
Bourne Ultimatum - I read the book last year while I was away on holiday and all I can say is there is FA in common between the book and the film. The entire plot is different, not one bit in common as far as I can tell and TBH, I think if they'd followed the plot of the book, it would have been a much better film. It's even further detach than Running Man was and I wasn't too impressed with the film of that either.

There is an alternate ending for I am Legend which is more faithful to the book, but I believe it didn't do too well during the test screenings, so they used the current ending.
As for Bourne. I've read "Identity" and seen the film and there are some items from the plot that are similar, but not that much. If I recall Supremacy isn't too similar to the book either, so I'm not surprised at all that Ultimatum doesn't follow the plot of the book.

It "hints" at the ending at the book without going into the same level of detail as to exactly what Robert has become, but it is far, far superior to the ending that eventually went out.

I watched Bourne Ultimatum on the Plane... so I've not had the full "cinema experience"..will watch it again...but not soon.
I am Leg'end well... I thought it was pants....and the ending was..well...like a budget UK drama when they've run out of money and need to kill someone off and wrap up the plot... shocking...

I'm not saying the Bourne films are bad, they just seem to have taken very little from the books other than he's an ex-black ops agent struggling with his memory.

I've read the first book and there's no way they could have turned it literally into a film. If they followed the book the film would have been 5 hours long, it's set in the 80's and the technology and political landscape has moved on so much that it wouldn't work. They had to take the premise of what Bourne is about and make good films out of it which they did.

All of the Ludlam books are far too convoluted to transpose onto film. Even the original deviates substantially, in that Alex Conklin is JB/DLs friend and mentor.

Watched I am Legend last night with the g/f
We'd wanted to watch it as we'd been on holiday in NYC in June.
Overall I thought the first halef was good then it went downhill. Smith's performance was the best part of the whole film. My g/f's scream when the zombie got up from the trolley could've woken the dead (me ear's still ringing!), the dog was a brillian t actor - but overall I thought the ending was limp.
The above comment of it being a cheap add on is dead right.
I've just watched the alt ending and for me it's much stronger and more intelligent. Even though it's still Hollywood sickly sweet there's more intelligence to it.
Overall - Slick version of 28 days later with some stronger acting in.
