Adam Norton, 22, Gareth's uncle, said: "They were both caring lads, both top lads who look after their mates. Just good lads and it's a terrible shame what's happened and the way they've gone."
Yeah, just good lads that liked to steal cars. I'm just glad they didn't kill anyone else.

Unfortunately, the word "stolen" takes away most of my sympathy, sorry if that seems heartless.

Luckily no innocent bystanders were involved.

I was going to quote that and post almost exactly the same as you. While it IS a terrible shame that two ..... well, whatever... died; I am only glad it was ONLY them

Hopefully his next comment about other people taking note is true.

I do feel sympathy for the families - however, they where not "good lads" as they stole a car - they could have easily killed someone else and have caused huge amounts of grif.

I do believe there are too many families/parent negating responsibility by convincing themselves that their kids are "good lads/girls" when in fact they are out stealing property and endangering lives, causing trouble, taking drugs, drinking, vandalising, intimidating, etc.

Good lads/girls do not do this by definition. I think some parents must to start taking a good long look at themselves and their kids behaviour and start taking some responsibility and interest so we do have a lot more good lads/girls.

I think most of us go through that stage, some more dangerously than others. I know our little gang of mates used to drive around pretty quickly either on bikes or cars when we reached that stage. The traffic was not so bad then and the cars not so capable of high speeds and that may have saved us for all I know.

We learned in the end and graduated onto the race tracks which was where we really did find that there is a lot more to fast driving than meets the eye. It was good fun though, and we did have consideration for others on the public roads at least.

Sorry to see that they were killed, but not very sensible to be screaming around in a stolen car and very unfair to the car's owner too. That is something that I cannot support in any way.

Waste of a car was my first thought, reading the story, turns out it's a waste of two cars and a caravan.

Strange when if it had been a couple of lads in their own car, you put it down to lads being lads and driving the way lads do (which we've all done), when they're in a stolen car and wreck someone else's, the sympathy evaporates somewhat.

Got to feel sorry for those who got their vehicles etc wrecked by the thieving scum, still it's two less thieving pieces of **** on the street I suppose.

If someone stole my car I'd be happy if they went the same way!

Was just discussing this and wondered how I would feel if the same lads had crashed into my garden destroying my cars, property etc.

I would be out there throwing all the bloody flowers away. No sympathy whatsoever

Would they still be 'GOOD LADS' if they had crashed into a crowd of people coming out of a pub killing and maiming them but otherwise being fine themselves. Would they still be good lads once those people realize the car they were driving was stolen and that they didn't have insurance, etc. Would they still be 'good lads' then.....

I've known loads of 'good lads' who've died young in cars. They were in the main w@nkers who loved to drink drive or take drugs and drive. Strangely enough the reports on the paper said they were lads who lived for their friends and never drank etc.

I'd call it justice.

Feel sorry for the emergency services involved. The firebrigade making the scene safe then the paramedic having to go into the car to PLE both bodies and then the cops telling the families that someones son is dead x 2. Thats a shame. It's not just the families that are involved.

Dead all for driving to fast. Makes you think when you drive like a dick to get to your destination 10 sec faster. We all drive like ***** at times. i know i have.

That is fair, as have many of us.

But the fact is, they stole a car to do it. You and I and hopefully most of us on this board have never stolen a car for this purpose. Because I bet the fact it was a stolen car meant nothing to them, and thus all they cared about was having fun and dumping the car at the end. So any small amounts of care you and I would have had being younger, but in our OWN car, would be very relevant since if you crashed it, it was your loss.

If they crashed it, they would not have cared at all.

It's bloody stupid and a waste of life, but they are selfish (or they were), and like others, I'm very glad it was 1am in the morning and they did not hurt anyone else.

Even so the house owner needs a new car, caravan, greenhouse, wall, garden etc. And who pays for that lot...?
