British Gas have offered me
a price freeze until september 2011
Is it worth taking them up on this offer or not
Bearing in mind the price freeze will be at the upped increase of 35% for Gas and 9% for electricity
It doesnt say how much extra you have to pay or indeed even if you do
Is it worth it

well as the others will be putting up prices too then I imagine that things will level out {like they did last time}
On another note I was wondering who BG use for PR / Marketing, announce 35% increases, record parent company with fantastic profits, offer to fix customers who have just has a 35% increase a fixed rate, and somewhere in there give you some free lightbulbs!! amazing and they will get away with it.

Cheers guys
I'm sort of wary about switching, as I did this several times many years ago, and every single bill since then has gone up, it has never gone down
Ill take a look though

I know they say wait, but personally, I moved to the smallest provider about 4 years ago and I've not had a bill increase once and I live in a 3 bed semi.
Atlantic Gas & Electric are brilliant. I have had the same monthly payments for 3 years now, I'm always checking, I'm still in credit, every 13th month I get free as a loyalty bonus for staying with them and it is their policy never to increase prices in the winter, only for the summer when usage is lower.
I don't work for them or have any special interest, just a satisfied customer.
Cheers
Matt

Doesn't fixing your prices work in the same way as a fixed mortgage rate? If gas prices go down (remember they're linked to oil prices which have now started to go down) then you're stuck at the higher rate.
I've made the decision not to fix for this very reason - if I've been misinformed, please let me know sharpish!!

if you look at the rates British Gas are offering they were nearly twice what I'm paying with Npower, IMHO BG are sheisters and I can't see them doing anything that will cost them money ignore the switching websites information and just try and compare actual figures get the BG rates for your area then check out the other providers to see if switching is worth while. To me BG released the price increase info and the fix plan deliberately together to try and see how many mugs would jump and sign up without looking into the detail or possible long term gas prices

snap I hate them with a vengeance, months of calling useless understaffed call centres when they cocked up my account and because they'd cocked up refused to let me switch as allegedly I owed them money. Cost me a packet

Yes that's right. Locking in a 35% increase has got to hurt though. Having said that, utility companies do not seem to be under the same scrutiny as the petrol companies to reduce prices when wholesale prices decline, so i'd be very surprised if you saw much of this 35% back in your pocket before the end of a fixed term, even if prices fall. End result - probably not much in it now, i think you've seen the proper price adjustment they were itching to implement.

look at their prices their click 5 scheme that seems to be their un fixed price hasn't actually been increased and is sitting at 5.96 and 2.5p
versus the bargain fixed rates of 7.25 and 3.68p
Interesting bit of marketing there

Robin Hood time!
Make sure you give these rogues a nice healthy meter reading for summer or you will all be paying far more for the gas you will use in winter... Ja'-get-me?
