boxter trade in shock!!!!
brother and i went round some dealers today to see how much he would get for his boxter s 3.2 on a 53 plate.he paid £23500 for it 7months ago it is a nice car with lots of extras including porsche aero kit. best offer against various new cars was £13000.seems no one is interested due to future road tax of £400 and the current economy .this government has shafted us big time.one dealer said evey time an off roader appears they all run for cover.nobody is interested.

Or, the dealer he bought it from shafted him?
Franchised dealer price is only around 18k and 15k-17k for private sales, so he paid well over the odds.

Ok, certain cars have taken a hit, of course it may be the dealer trying it on using the current climate as a bandwagon ?
Its not worth £23 k by any means but its worth more than 13, there are still buyers out there for specialist, sought after stuff, my mate sold his Evo makkinen for 3 grand over the trade in, guy flew in from Ireland desperate to buy it and didnt haggle, a desirable car is still desirable and people can still afford them, I am not going to give up on interesting cars just yet, as long as I have the money, the fuel and tax has been well offset by the panic drops in prices.
Its big BMW's, Jag's, "Lexi" and any juicy off roader that will struggle, anything thats mundane but pricey to run is really going to struggle, so F*cki it, I cycle most days, 750i for me

If it was my car I'd spend the next 2 months using it, combine it with 30 or 40 laps of the ring and think 7K was a cheap deal for the privilege.

I still don't believe an extra £200 in tax can make such a difference in prices!! I can kinda understand for common cars such as 4x4's and the like, but for specialist cars there will always be buyers IMO.
I've just bought an S2000, the extra £190 in tax from next year (if it actually happens...) was not enough to stop me buying the car I've wanted for many years!
I think it's just the dealers trying it on IMO as they know people with sporty/4x4 vehicles are probably getting worried.

I was selling my friend's mint 28k mile 52-plate 'S' back in February this year, so have a very good feel for prices at the time. Eventually sold for £17k and that involved fixing the niggles that the OPC inspection through up so the warranty could be applied.
Basically your friend paid at least £5k over the odds for the car when be bought it.
Gary.

It will do on the lower price bracket performance cars such as the Boxster, people just aren't buying them due to tax & fuel costs hence the nose-dive in values. It's affecting many cars in a similar price/performance bracket.

It isn't just the extra £200, it is the price of fuel and the perceived threat of what is to come. Most purchases of none essentials, in this case performance cars, are sentiment driven. So if there is no confidence in the economy and the prospect of losing one,s home luxuries are likely to be hit. Was looking at a 350z in a local dealer, 05 GT coupe, asking price without haggling 16,495 to 14,995 in 2 months. I think there is probably still a little way to go!

Yes there will always be buyers for specialist cars, just not necessarily what a buyer thinks it should sell for.

i know it's yet another thing to have to shell out for, but in the scheme of things is it really such a big deal?
i've hardly got money to burn but i want to keep the car so it's got to be taken on the chin along with the whatever the tree huggers throw at perfomance cars next.

The drop in prices is most noticeable on low MPG high tax models but it is affecting regular cars too. I was happily selling Renault Grand Scenics at 3 years old with 20K for £7495 about three months ago. We are now selling them for £5495. I personally think it is more to do with an over supply of vehicles compared with prospective buyers pushing prices down.
A lot of dealers (including me) are also refusing to stock anything risky so have to get trade bids, which are very low at the moment. I was at an auction yesterday where a 05 plate 20K BMW M5 couldn't get a bid amongst some very serious dealers, but they were all over a Toyota Yaris.....

Well, the Governments 'green' policies are going to screw up lots of things. The car market is just one.
Oh well,if you are going to shaft your own economy to save a squirrel do it good and proper.
(Hmmmm,Porsche in the garage for the price of a Fiesta .Tempting........)

Too many PCPs ending now, our BMW (X3 booooo) ends in another 3 months, we will be handing it back. Dealer offered us £9k for it (PCP final value is £14k..) so someone is going to get a good deal, as I really do think BMW, Merc, Audi etal are going to have so many cars in stock over the next 2 years that they wont be able to sell them all.
We dont know what we will replace the X3 with just yet but I am thinking that I will find some super gas guzzler that is worth nowt and waft around in that for a bit.

Aye
Our £25,000 Top spec X Trail is worth about a £1
Does the government really believe I am going to give up my leather electric seats,Built in Sat Nav,ace wipe clean interior, dogs danglies (but useless) spotlights on the roof, nice high driving position and rock solid reliability for a Fiat 500 'pop'
Errr I'll pay the extra £200.
In fact the new rules are tempting me to buy a top spec but worthless Range Rover so it is definately changing my attitude to what I drive

We are at the start of a massive recesion and luxury cars have been dropping in value like second hand unwashed sex toys. Some dealers have lost thousands in stock devaluation and they cannot afford to stock cars they cannot sell. I spke to someone yesterday who wants to part ex an ml320 and 3 dealers have said straight that they do not want it.
PS sc clark I have got 2 fiestas for sale very cheap if interested.

Chap i work with knows of a dealer in Newcastle who took back a six week old Bentley Continental. £130,000 new, £70,000 six weeks later. The dealer was so nervous of holding it that he turned it around for £65,000 the following week. Now that's scary.

IMHO it's probably the worry of what it might be in a few years time rather than the current £400 price tag although it doubtless puts people off rather than makes them take a shine to your "sports vehicle". It's certainly p*ssed me off as my car has / will take a hit on it's sale price ...
