Default Help with iTunes and iPod!!

Ok here goes... basically to free up some space on my PC I bought an external hardrive and basically transferred the iTunes folder with all my songs and videos on it to the external hardrive, and then deleted the folder on the PC.

Now when I open iTunes, my songs don't come up anymore.
I now want to update my iPod and add some new tunes to it, but if sync the ipod will I lose all the data on it because my iTunes is empty??!

What is the best way to go about this?

Could you not re-install iTunes and then tell it where you keep the files on your hard-disc?

Or is that just too easy?

Or just go to preferences and tell it where your music is.

Or you can manually edit the iTunes Library.xml file and change the music folder location in that, then restart iTunes.

When you deleted the iTunes folder from your internal hard drive it also deleted the iTunes database file, which is what iTunes uses to store the location of all the music, that's why it's coming up blank.

As Jack suggests, go into the iTunes Preferences, then into Advanced, there should be an option that refers to where the Music is stored, simply change that to point at the folder you copied to your external drive and you should be ok.
