Someone has run over a cat outside my house !!
Got woken this morning by a friend on their way to work, someone has hit a cat outside my house.. going by the mess it was a bus or something, either way they didnt stop and its now been reduced to a blood and gutts mess.
I feel terrible for the owners, it has to be one of my neighbours but I cant ID the cat as its just fur and blood.
I cant even pick it up, its needs to be scraped off the road... is there anyone I can call to do this ... I'm an animal lover and this is really getting to me.
Any suggestions ?

Thats horrible :-(
I would ring the council (highways or something there should be a 24 hour emergency number), they will come and clean that up (or they would around here)
Poor little thing - feel for the owners.

At the end of the day whoever owns the cat is soon going to realise it is missing - if you saw fur then that should be enough. I would knock or put a note through neighbours doors, word will soon spread and at least the owners will know what happened.
I would hate it if our cat went missing and we never knew what happened to her.

I understand exactly how you feel Pimmo, I am an animal lover too. Perhaps you could snip a bit of the poor cat's fur off to help identify it if you hear of one missing near you.
Luckily our old boy is scared of traffic and keeps out of its way, but sometimes we get van drivers belting past on the very narrow road at the back of our house and it worries me a lot.
Sorry for the one that got run over.

When my kids were young they hated seeing squashed rabbits and the like on the road. I just used to say they were fine and just having a kip. Half snoozing on one side of the road and "look - there's the rest of him having a sleep over there".
Re the cat. I'd put it in a box and wait for a couple of days and see if you can find owners. If not put it in the bin. dl

Shovel - binbag.
I suppose it could have been chipped, but thats not much use. If its not got a collar on with a nametag then there is nothing else you can do, stick it in the bin before some morbid 7yr old starts prodding it with a stick and shouting eueeew! (as they do).

When we lost our cat a few months ago, my g/f was asleep but I was still awake and it was very late at night. Knock on the door and it was our neighbour explaining that they had seen a cat lying dead on the pavement and it could be ours. I came outside with a torch and sure enough there he was looking a mess lying dead. He had onviously been hit hard and had been flung up onto the pavement.
I was absolutely beside myself with grief and had to gently place him in a cardboard box and cover him over so my g/f couldnt see the state of him. It was not a nice mess. I was grateful for the neighbours for telling me and If I was the owner in your case, I would want to know.
Your problem is the mess is spread over a distance. I suggest you either alert the neighbours as best as possible but leave the clearing up to the owner or the council. You will just get yourself worked up into a miserable state if you try it yourself.

Its not as if you are obliged to tell the owners, but I have to say I would. I would just knock a few doors and explain the situation. They will be able to tell you straight away if its theirs or not because they will probably have seen their cat in the last few hours.

Also, I would just go out and scrape it up if I couldnt find the owner...but thats just me: maybe you are squeemish. Better try and find the owner first though, as they might not like you putting their cat in a bin etc.

Solution to that would surely be just to try a few doors near to you, and if its none of them, just clean it up. Unless your neighbors arent nice folk
