Road tax
The misses got a renewal reminder for her 2 evos, both cars tax run out same date and both reminders came in the same envelope. The evo5, 6 months -£101.75 & 12months -£185.00 but the evo6 came in at 6 months -£220.00 & 12months -£440.00, i know there was a tax hike due which would be the cost of the evo6 but why would the evo5 not be the same, same car basically

Sounds wrong to me
Road tax - Parker's
Some strange things are happening with imports though, some getting stung, some not.

I think you'll find if it was registered after 2000 that you'll have the price hike, luckily mine is 31st dec 99 Have a look on the log book and see when it was registered.

From 1st March 2001 the annual car tax (or Vehicle Excise Duty - VED) rates are determined by CO2 emissions and type of fuel used. This information is on the car’s log book - also called a V5 document.
If your car was registered before the 1st March 2001 then car tax is based only on the engine size, with one rate for engine sizes up to and including 1549cc and one for engines over 1549cc
so according to Parkers its 1st march 2001 registered cars that get the price hike

If it's an import, does the date of manufacture make a difference or is the tax calculated based on date of import and the appropriate CO2 level for that model (in short, is your Evo6 an import that arrived after 1st March 2001?)

The car has to be showin a 51 plate or later.
It's is supposed to be 2010 for the hike, anything Co2 emmisions over 400g/km will be £400+
Newage wrx £310, Sti £440
Auto trader has alot of info on there website about this.

I personally don't think that we have to worry about this massive hike in 2010, i really can't see it going ahead, speak to anybody with any political involvement and they pretty much say the same thing.
Its more than likely it'll all get scrapped and they will add tax to fuel, so those who drive more get taxed more. (for example why should i pay £400 for my scoob that does 4-5000k a year, when my company car is £35 a year and it does 70k a year)
