Default Any Builders about, quick Q

I,m looking to hang a big bracket on the living room wall.

trouble is i dont know the exact construction of the house, so i dont know the wall thickness etc.

Im guessing that theres either.

Plaster / A layer of bricks / cavity / layer of bricks / plaster between the two houses (semi detached)

or its plaster / concrete block / cavity / concrete block
/ plaster

or possibly plaster / concrete block / plaster ?

i want to whack in some 100mm fixings, but dont want to end up in next doors front room

any ideas how i can tell

we have a gas fire in the front room (removed) , but the flues still there, it comes up into the loft, via the party wall and goes into a flue pipe and out through the roof if that helps

How old is the house?
Whatever the age yo should have something substantial for the party wall, and 100mm fixings will not go through to their side. Your hammer drill might make their plastic ducks fly off the wall though...

should be cavity wall all round the house on outside or adjoining walls usually either brick @ 102mm wide or block @ 100mm wide {it would be unusual for 140mm blocks to be used there} you should also have the cavity approx 70 - 100mm and then hit the back of the outer skin {or next doors wall if doing the adjoining wall}

100mm fixing that must be some bracket!! what you hanging up a car?

Mart I am sure you wouldn't need 100mm fixings for that surely unless you are planning on holding he house up with the bracket i would look around on the nextr for the best depth of fixing to use as to me 100mm seems a little extreme, but saying that I don't have a plasma fixed to my wall or have never fixed one either so it could prove to be right.

either way I hope your initial question has been answered, and just out of curiosity what fixings will you be using?

Those are some meaty fixings I have seen lateral restraint plates with smalle ones LOL.

I am sure and providing you wall doesn't fall down they will do the trick

You must post a few pics when you are doing it
