How long does No Claims Bonus last?

Default How long does No Claims Bonus last?
I haven't had a car or insurance since last year. I have just got my old insurance company to send me a proof of no claims letter so i can show this if i do get a car again.....how long does this "last" for?

I *think* it's 2 years.

Then it sort of steps back

up to 2 years = full
2-3 years = 40%
3-4 years = 30%
More than 4 years = Bugger all.

12 months I thought so if its lapses you loose it.

I had inquired about this from my insurance company recently, as I was toying with the idea of a temporary contract abroad.
They told me I could claim my full entitlement for up to 2 years.
