Ok, some mates and I have just had a taste of go-karting and are interested in getting our own kart. We are in Cambridge and been to the track in Caxton which was pretty good. So what I want to know is what sort of costs we are looking at for buying a half decent second hand car and any other costs after the obvious helmet, gloves, race overalls, fuel etc? We have a guy here who works part time as a mechanic for the last 6 years + so weve got someone who can maintain the engine etc.
Also what are the usual rates for track usage in your own kart and do most large tracks let you keep your kart there as I dont really see us getting a trailer to tow the thing around?
If anyone has some reccomendation for the Cambridge area that would be great.

Try www.karting.co.uk should point you in the right direction. As for "kit" look at c£30 for good gloves, c£125 for an helmet (best to buy from a bike shop IMHO) and c£150 for a decent quality racing suit - and if you want them c£80 for a good quality pair of racing boots/shoes.
