(dont know if its already been posted,But)
My other favourite haunt the MLR has put up a post stating that as of the 1st of march, any person who wishes to post on their bbs,has to join the Mitsubishi Lancer Register (£25) for the year!!
I find that these clubs have all these great offers to make you join but in reality when you join, most of the things are useless.
I was a member of the Peugeot sport club many years ago,ok the mag was not bad but as for the cheaper insurance and money off cards they were not much use to me.I didnt bother to renew my membership after the first year!!!!
Why can't the MLR have Banner adds like scoobynet??
Think i'll go over there and find out

Chris B,
sorry ,i know scoobynet is not part of the sidc,
but its just that the main man (Darin),says that its costing too much money to run without support!!
A few Banner ad's from some tuning shops/garages,aftermarket spare parts suppliers etc ,would help things.

And payment could go towards cost of bandwidth, kit, hosting for pics maybe etc, etc.
I for one would pay to use this service as i find it more valuable than any other clubs.
Might also help to bring things back to how they used to be, maybe im just gettin old or something but i hardly bother to look in general at the mo, last 6 months have seen a huge shift from quality to quantity or is it just me......

Charging for access to a BBS goes against all underlying principles of The Internet IMO.
Sure, it'll reduce the muppets, but it'll also reduce those that contribute "in passing" but aren't ardent regulars willing to stump up £25
The signal to noise ratio will improve, but the total signal will be reduced.

I agree.
All that will happen is that the lancer guys will disperse to other BBS's (Scoobynet/Evo etc), and it'll become a members only clique.
The SIDC don't charge to use their forums, as people want to see what they get before they join.
Scoobynet is a seperate entity to the SIDC. If scoobynet started to charge it would IMHO be the begining of the end.

Agree with most of the above. Charging for the MLR will kill it. And ditto for ScoobyNet, I think, and I'm pleased to say that the last time I spoke with Simon de Banke (WebMaster) on this, he was absolutely against it.

The Lancer Register forums have only got 1500 members!
How many of those people actually own a evo??
And out of all the evo owners ,how many of them will join?
I think this will be the end for the MLR forums

All fair enough, but they may just have been caught by the economics.
Most people don't realise how much time, effort and CASH it takes to keep servers running.
The real killer is the cost of the bandwidth - if its an active BBS then the amount consumed is huge with means big bucks are required to pay for it.
If may have been a choice of having to charge, or the site going offline completely....

Perhaps, but I can't imagine that the cost to run the Lancer BBS is the same as Scoobynet (which doesn't charge)
There are always people with spare bandwidth prepared to host a BBS to keep the community going.

The other benefit is that you remove a lot of the fools who just try to wind people up. Very few people will pay £25 just to take the ****.
