Social life can stem from the most bizzare/banal situations actaully , thats all you need to know - its a matter of listening to what someone is telling you...!
just remember also if you can count real friends on more than one hand your a bit of a freak

As said above ... you are asking people who are hooked on ScoobyNet, we have no lives!!!
..... don't listen to a word on here in answer to your question - ask the people in the Gym, Local .. etc.!!

As has been said, if possible it may be worth getting off the shift you are on, I can imagine how difficult it would be to balance work and social life on that shift.
Until then, have you no common ground with the others you work with on night shift? They may not become life long pals, but may get you out there into the social scene in someway, if even only short term. Getting a new job/being on a different shift could open up a whole new world so to speak, if that is a viable option.
Only you can really know what your real likes are, and as difficult as it can be, you sometimes just need to get out there on your own and find your own path. You may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome, sometimes it's thinking about doing new things that is worse than actually doing them.
Car meet may be a good idea if possible, if that is one of your interests, just get out there and chat.
Good luck, just get out there.

I was in a similar situation to you a few years ago - I sat on the sofa one day & thought **** me there got to be more to life than this.....
SO i did something about it - someone on here(POC) said he had just had a great night out with Round Table....
Who I thought? - Round Table
Best thing I ever joined - only go out every other tuesday, but go with 10 or so other guys, and done some amazin stuff - all on tuesday nite!
Canoeing, quad biking, go-karting, rock climbing, archery, mud buggies, hovercraft racing, treasure hunts, rifle shooting, clays....you name we've done it, this in addition to the copious amounts of beer consumed regularly....
Best thing I ever joined - and reccommend it to anyone on here - Its like scouts for men!
next Tues - I'm going Clay Pigeon shooting, the week after we having a trip to a classic Jaguar restorers, day after its agricultural sports day - racing diggers, farm machinery etc.....
Last week we were Quad Biking, then pub...

Just had a look at the Round Table link and have to say that does sound rather good so I'd suggest going along.
You say you have an interest in cars, see if there are any local meets and pop along. Even if you don't own the marque whose meet it is, they are generally very friendly people. I made a lot of friends via going to meets, and I'm still in contact with them even though I no longer own an Impreza, nor am I even in the same country When I do pop back to the UK, if there's a meet, I'll pop along and I'm still more than welcome.
