Had a VAT Inspection today
To be honest i was dreading this, bigstyle, i have heard some complete HORROR stories from most self employed people i have asked about it.
most do the little "suck in of air" before saying "ohh"
found guides on the net telling me to make them cups of tea and stuff
what a complete surprise, in and out within 50 mins, said the books were impressive and all filed much better then most places, and "i dont think you are not paying enough VAT, in fact i think you have been paying to much"
turns out i have a very good chance of getting back 2.5% of all VAT paid backdated 3 years back? as i am not in the same category as some other sites (who pay less)
what a result !
bloke and woman were actually very nice, and we spent most of the time talking about franchised pubs as i thought its what i wanted to do when i grew old, but after talking with the bloke (who used to run one) i think i will not bother after all

I had one not so long back and it was an eye opener, mere formality if they think you're paying the correct amount and they know before they even turn up if they think you're iffy.

they were actually that nice, that i wish i had offered them a cuppa now
i soooo hope i am on the wrong FRS rate and i get a healthy backdated refund

yup, was told it was best for less hassle all round, i think i was added to a standard 10% scheme, but i have since found out that other local sites are running under "bodywork repair", or something like that and it is on a reduced rate?
the category's all seam a bit "vague" IMO but i asked the chap to put it all in writing, so its kosher and we will take it from that point onwards

i have just had an email from the woman, she was waffling on loads about the part time lads and starting to get arsey at the time about paye numbers.
to be honest i have no clue about that stuff, i leave it to the accountant, i tried to explain that the accountant sorts all that out but she was not happy at one point, as i apperently had no paye number?
now i am pretty sure i do, so i went into the staff files and the latest lad to start actually asked for this mystical paye number when he started so i got it from the accountant and made a note on his file at the time.
wife was then surprised to see this number and rang somebody to check, but still claims that both lads now have to fill in a p46 form, this baffled me as far as i know, they are both on the books
they both get sent out proper payslip from the accountant with all details on, they are as "legit" as i could possibly make them, which ****en pisses me off when i know a local handwash place pays the lads 30quid a day cash in hand
anyway i rang the accountant again and voiced the concerns regarding the "new forms" that need to be filled in and he thinks she is talking out from her ****.
they do 16 hours each at min wage, the earnings are under the limit required for the forms she wants and all the details are on the payslips anyway
if she had of just rung the bloody bloke when i gave the number it could have all been sorted out on the spot.
anyway, i figure i might as well just print them off and get them filled in, even when the website says i do not have to do it
they don't make it fackin easy for us small chaps, i can tell you that much, at least they left happy
