Any artists here that use oil paints?
I've used some for a project that were thinned down with white spirit. How long will a layer of paint under 1mm take to fully dry? Or dry enough to varnish anyway.

Under 1mm will probably be best left for a week if it has been thinned right down (white spirit isn't the best stuff really.....ok for cleaning brushes). You can use retouching varnish more or less straight away, and you can paint on top of it if you wish, otherwise if you're going to be painting on more layers of paint mixed with linseed, you need to let it dry for 6 months before varnishing.
Let me know if you need any more help.

What I'm doing is a 1 shot deal, I used them for marbling.
So far tests are good, but their taking ages to dry (as I expected) but need to have a few layers of varnish to finish them off. After all the finished articles will be doing 150 FPS!!
(I'm marbling the *** end of a set of arrows).

When you say arrows, do you mean real ones, or darts?
Use retouching varnish.........you can get it in a spray, and touch up anything later if you wish (paint-wise I mean, not girly-wise! )

Arrows, as in 29 inches long made from Port Orford Ceder and a sharp metal point on the business end.
Actually, I'm beginning to wonder if this technique will work on my carbons for my compound

Loved it but couldn't afford to buy my own stuff at the time, so had to give it up.

If you do field its cheap as chips. I shoot in 2 catagories, hunting tackle and Comp limited.
My new samick was 95 quid and 2 sets of wooden arrows 50 quid, unlike the 2nd catagory, compound limited, which set me back just under a grand!!

Come back to it Splicer You know you want to.
If you look at NFAS (National Field Archery Society) - Latest News you'll be able to find you local club. You can't beat a few hours in the woods.
I'm competing in my first field comp this weekend , just a small 1, 2 days of shooting and about a 10 mike hike!
But yes, modern kit is expensive, my carbon arrows for the compund are about 70 quid a set and thats cheap!!! Olympic grade arrows are 250 a set!!!
