Default Buying electronic equipment from outside the EU

Hi Ladies and Gents.

I'm looking to replace my decks and it seems as though I can get them for half the price in the US than what I can over here. I'd end up spending £700 on a pair over there, which is what I'd pay for 1 over here!

I'd probably end up paying about £100 on shipping.

What I'd like to know is would it be worth my while buying from the US with Tax and Duties being added on? I've really not got a clue!

Thanks

Not sure what the duty rate is on a turntable, but at a minimum you're looking at 17.5% extra on top of the cost of the decks + shipping, ie. £140. Depending on the power supply they come with, you may also need a 110V transformer.

Make a holiday out of it and go to fetch them personally.

If you need a hand carrying them, I'm free! As long as you pay for my ticket

Hmm, you might not end up saving any money though

CDJs?
yes huge saving to be made
Go get them yourself though!
Not that I would possibly condone smuggling stuff, but theoretically you can get away with it very easily.

Wouldnt recommend shipping them- you WILL get raped for import duty, and huge risk of them being damaged or 'lost'

Thanks for the replies guys

CDJs indeed You know much about? I've currently got 1000mk2s which are a bit past it, going for another set. Although might downgrade to 800mk2s. still undecided as of yet.

For the price I'd pay going to get them myself wouldn't I be cheaper just buying them over here?

How much would a return ticket cost you?

Mk3s are not THAT much different.... hot looping, MP3 readable, slightly improved display.... if you had mk1s, then mk3s would be a step up, but not from Mk2s- thats coming from me who has 3xmk2s and work with both mk2+ mk3s week in week out.

Wrong time of year for cheap flights though really!
I know from experience, you can fit 1 cdj in a UDG slingbag and 2 in the trolley bag- all of which fit in the overhead lockers....

I've played on Mk1s before, despised them - jog wheel was far too stiff. Played on MK3s before and you're right they're not that much different. I'm keeping one of the mk2s in addition to the two new I'm going to buy. Think I might treat myself to a new mixer if I do head across the pond. Got a DJM 600, half the friggin ***** are missing. Looking into getting an Allen & Heath though. You sound like a knowledgeable man - thoughts on mixers?

Luckily enough I DO have a UDG sling bag And I'm sure I can source a trolley from somewhere

Well personally I use rotary mixers now.... but I encounter & install both A&H 62/92, DJM800/1000 and Rane rotary on a weekly basis through the course of work stuff.
Know them all basically inside and out now...

A&H v good though.
Pioneer DJM-800 is the industry standard now.
Both very different makes and mixers, and all depends what you want from a mixer really.
Oh- you can get replacement **** caps from pioneer for cheap

Jeezo... You know your stuff then!

The club I play at has djm800. Played in a club with A&H which I thought had converted me, been toying with the idea of a xone 62 but I'm going to look into Rotary now you mention it.

I would buy new ***** but to be perfectly honest the mixer is past its best, the ***** are probably worth more than the mixer!

And so it continues.... You into production by any chance?
