any mechanics on today, urgent help needed
hi, my freind has a 1.9 dci megane , he was on his way home a couple of weeks ago when the car started sounding funny, it was smoking badly, so he took it to the garage where they reckoned the turbo had gone so he had a new one put on, no change, then he had new injectors on it, still the same,
it blows white smoke badley out the exhaust and if you unplug the breather pipe its literaly like a steam train coming out of the pipe, except its smoke not steam. lol.
has anyone got any ideas what it could be, head gasket ? rings? hes just about given up. thanks in advance.

White smoke is *usually* oil, black smoke *usually* fuel. So my first guess would be rings or valves. But he'll have to strip it down, or get it stripped down. Taking the head off should be enough to at least see where the problem lies.
Unless there is some Megane *smoking* habit that's different to all other engines out there ...

That is most certainly head gasket, try running it and taking the oil fller cap off, if you still get the steam train effect it'll need a new gasket

and you should know that steam is invisible,
what you see coming out of the kettle is condensed water vapour
the steam, is the invisible bit between the spout and the start of the water vapour

Odds are it could be a Holy Piston...and not the blessed kind. Usually its the 2.2 but the 1.9s are as prone. Just needs a dodgy injector squirting or dribbling outside the piston bowl or a leaky turbo and its bye bye pistons.
Needs a compression test.
Also the return line for the turbo in the engine block can block up, causing the turbo to blow out the seals...replace and the new one does the same.
Do the compression test first though. First thing I would do with a smokey Renault DCi
