Default Recaro seats..........a con?

My eldest has just bought a Clio 197 and WANTED the Recaro seats. His has the Renault Sport ones.

We were at a Renault dealer and I got him to sit in the white Clio Sport they had in stock with Recaros, and he agreed with the general consensus over those seats that they LOOK great, but are not as comfortable or as supportive as the Renault offering.

Is this a one-off, or are Recaros a con? Are folk buying them for the look/badge?

They are fab seats. I looked at changing the standard RenaultSport seats in my Clio V6 - the main reason being to lower them down (as they are mounted about 20 mm lower than the regular seats). Your best bet is to go over to one of the V6 forums (v6clio.net) or the renaultsport forum - you'll find loads of people who have changed the seats - not necessarily all for the Recaros (although they do look great and Audi and a few others use them too)

The Recaro seat in my Accord Type R were superb. Did Surrey to West Wales and back in a day. Climbed out without any aches and pains.

In this months Evo. Ford ST V's Megane TDI (fitted with Recaro seats) they said that the Fords Recaro's were more comfortable to sit in.

Going by the pics though, and given the choice, you'd pick the Renault's Recaro's on looks alone.

Not a 197, but I went for Cobra seats:

Standard 172/182 seats are mounted way too high, and not very comfy. But I thought the standard 197 seats were a lot better.

I've got Recaros in my ST and they're lovely, the only thing that would improve them is to swap the passenger one with a driver's seat from a left hooker as you don't get lumbar support in the passenger seat. They're extremely comfy and don't make my back ache
