i got an email the other day out of the blue, for a quote to airfreight two pallets of toners to uganda.
i worked it all out and put a grand on it to make him go a way.


he came back, accepted it and sent me the cheque, which we have paid in he will deliver the pallets in a couple of weeks time, (thry are not even ready)and i will send therm airfreight to EBB. as long as i wait for the cheuqe to clear the bank i cant see a way im being ripped off can you? im just surprised he let me put such an expensive quote in and i still got the job.

cheque is stolen, it will clear and be paid.

6 months later or less the bank will come back and say it was stolen and the funds are being reclaimed (perfectly legal)

your out of pocket either the funds recieved & the cost of the goods


tell them to go ferk !!!

the bank cant come back six moths later surely?
im going to wait till it clears and accounts tell me it is then i will send the freight

Dont take this the wrong way but.

save yourself the hassle do a search on 419 scams, then decide if you want to be ripped off.

if you feel you've got xxx amount of cash available to try it, then be my guest

This was on the bbc news site last week as a tail end on another story:

Since November, interest must be credited no more than two days after a cheque has been paid in and the money must be available to be drawn out after no more than four days.

After six days, a cheque is deemed to have cleared absolutely and so banks cannot recoup money from a customer's account if they discovered the original cheque payment was fraudulent.

ive done this job for twenty years and never been scammed, he hasnt even sent the stuf to me for me to send out yet, it will be weeks and i have banked his 2300 quid

Are you a known or unknown agent JM ?, got your own x-ray facilities? the x-ray may be very interesting, in my experience anyone who pays up front for a move to an African nation is usually shipping something they're not declaring, I've had cash rolled up inside a consignment of marker pens, rolex watches inside bibles, plenty of Khat, but that's usually out of Africa onto other countries, one guy rang up with a booking of video tapes for YYZ, we went to collect and were give 4 large hessian sacks of Khat lol how dumb do some people think we are...

To be safe I'd check with your bank and the issuing bank and get something in writing from both.

Get their written assurance before parting with your stuff and if there's anything dodgy down the line then the banks are liable.

My advice - dont do it.....period......full stop......ever

Even if the cheque has cleared the bank can claim it was fraudulent and chargeback.
