So preventing the deaths of innocent civilians is less important than the fact it costs you a couple of quid more to fill up your tank.

That is some perspective on life you have there!!

Oh that was ridicule was it? Sorry I mistook it for a childish jibe speculating about my sexual preferences presumably because you are unable to come up with anything more intelligent hence my request. Anyway haven't you got school tomorrow?

Putting aside the handbags at dawn discussion above cluster bombs are evil vicious things. And yes they are far more important than a couple of pence per litre.

On the oil side I just heard Brown say on the news that bringing in a couple of new North Sea oilfields on stream is going to secure UK supplies. He knows that's bollox and we know that's bollox

You are the first to bemoand the lack of respect in our country, so why do you show such scant respect for some people on here.

I can't speak for the other you choose to insult, but you must be an absolute right wing wacko, if you consider my moderate positions on most subjects to be 'lefty' or 'socialist'

I personally dont want to pay taxes to a goverment that uses stuff like that, ok war is nasty but unexploded bomblets and landmines killing and maiming kids is actually quite important. Ok fuel prices affect us all, in real time but I would prefer to see an X5 4.8is driver pass out at the petrol station kiosk than see a photo of a 4 year old kid without any legs.

We have a pretty dire financial situation going on in the Uk at the moment but I dont think worthy initiatives should stop so we can wallow more effectively in the misery of things being more expensive, my kids may have to not get dropped off at friends 15 miles away by car on a whim, but on the plus side I wont see them jump 20 feet in the air and be scattered over a wide area when they play in our garden.

Ok, the yanks arent so bothered but if the Uk and other countries do something then maybe they might get the point, unlikely but at least our conscience is clean.

I don't see why we should ban them. In war innocent people get hurt. Look at the Second world war. Did the Germans give a hoot that they might kill an innocent British person? No. Did we with them? No.

I can see the argument for banning them, but TBH, I'd rather we had/used them that someone else using them on us.

Do suicide bombers care if they kill innocent victims? No. What's the difference. We kill innocent people, so do they.

It is a war afterall. Maybe we should settle our differences with a Football match? Actually, with our England team that's probably a bad idea.

I Agree.

Infact cluster bombs arnt actually designed to kill people. They are designed to blow up runways and millitary bases leaving unexpolded shels behind so that they cant just go and repair them once we have stopped bombing them.

They are not used in built up civilian areas for obvious reasons. So unless the enemy millitants have decided to use the local school kids to clear up the rubble from their base, there should'nt be any 4 year olds with their legs blown off.

Well considering child soldiers aren't uncommon in certain parts of the world, that isn't altogether unlikely.

If you were the head of a military junta, who would you use to clear minefields or airstrips with clusters bombs? Trained soldiers or expendable civilians?

You can't measure everything by how it work here.

As for the use of cluster bombs, we have a responsbility to take a lead in things like this and land mines etc.
Ther eis incontravertible evidence that they cause absolute carnage amongst civilians long after the warring factions have cleared off.

Just because some of our enemies might not have any qualms about killing civilians does not mean we should cat the same.

The same applies to toture, the use of chemical weapons all sorts of things that can cause unnecessary harm to civilian populations.

Watched something last night showing where some yanks had dumped a load of cluster bombs on a convoy that was trying to flee from them or something. Didn't look like a runway to me....
I'm sure there are other methods of blowing people/runways up that don't have to leave unexploded bombs everywhere.

Forgot to say, I in no way think that what is on the news is always absolutely factual so what I saw may have been something else entirely. I would still say that they aren't only used miles away from civilian inhabited areas though.

What you think i dont know about them using civilians to do their dirty work? Course i do, but then thats not the cluster bombs fault is it? If your thinking that much into it, you might as well stop the production on all bombs as most smart millitia will position their bases next to schools or keep children in their HQ unknown to their attackers. Then they throw the dead bodys on the street so we sat at home can get a good look on the news on how another child gets killed in the raids. Clever really.
