I'm looking at the moment too, and I've plumped for the Garmin 250W which online from Halfords is £129.99.
It gets very good reviews and comes with Western European maps too.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 250 (which is just over £100 now (I paid £150)) and find it excellent. One of the reasons I bought it is it comes with Poland and several other countries that you have to pay on others.
If you are so inclined you can also download maps via torrents (as you can with TomTom) onto a memory card.

I'm glad I seen this thread, it's my hubby's 30th soon and I'm wanting to buy him a sat nav after having the lend of one, I've been looking at the tom tom one uk & roi, can you get add ons agfterwards if you want say maps of europe etc?
I thought Argos' price was good @ 129.99 with a free in car adaptor then buying the windscreen mount seperate @ 19.99.
Any other reccomendations welcome as I really don't have a clue!

Bought my TomTom ONE version 2 about a year ago from Amazon, £130, no VAT, full Western Europe maps. I think if you limit the maps then it' a fair bit cheaper.
