Default Short Term Car Insurance

Interesting one here.

A mate of mine at work is looking at buying a Hummer, for some reason the dealer says he has to get his own insurance cover to test drive it. His current insurer wont do it as the vehicle will not be registered to him.

I have tried a search on google for short term car insurance but cannot find anywhere that will cover a Hummer on short term insurance.

Anyone got any ideas?. Think he is going to tell them to stick up their @rse in a minute as it does seem crazy they wont cover him for a test drive.

Tell the dealer "No test drive no sale". Walk away. The dealer sounds like an @rse anyway if that's his attitude.

i think thats the plan, was just worth a look to see if they could get the dealer to pay for it. does seem very strange them not covering you for test driving the vehicle.

especially as he has told them he is paying a nice big bundle of cash for it.

I seem to remember reading that insurance policies came with a cooling off period? He could take out a policy and if he didn't crush anyone under the wheels of the thing, cancel it in the afternoon?

isn't it called gap insurance, there are companies that offer this service. I remember asking about this ages ago and was told it was possible.

It is strange that the dealer does not have insurance, but otherwise your only option is to insure something else then cancel as suggested above.
