Genius... Who'd want to work for a company with a total lack of any sense of humour anyhow?

 

my memory may be failing me, but wasn't May recruited to Top Gear just after the relaunch, as a member of the public? IIRC people sent in vids of car reviews - he sent one about buying an old Roller which wouldn't fit in his garage. Nothing then about being a time-served hack?

 

I subscribe to Autocar, its not without humour but agreed its a bit thin on the ground.

 

Are they owned by Yanks, they're soul-less fun-sucking vampires to work for. Or at least they are in my experience, but there are SOME exceptions.

 

May cut his teeth on the now defunct Complete Car before moving on to Autocar and Motor.

 

He used to write a column in Country Life too
