Anyone been to El Gouna near Hurghada in Egypt? What's the diving like, best places to go/avoid? Thanks

Yup to the diving bit....but no to the place you're off to..

I'm off to Borneo on Monday 4th for 10 days diving...last couple of years I have been out in the Maldives ....guess I'm a warm water diver really....

Have yet to do Egypt....maybe next year...

I went to Sharm at New Year, the town was great and the diving excellent. The water was really clear. A bit chilly especially late afternoon and in the evenings. I heard El Gouna is quieter and less touristy than Sharm (and that probably also applies underwater as well, Sharm diving was a bit busy especially in the shallower waters near the reef). Everything was excellent, the locals, the food, the dives, PERFECT!!!!

PS apparently the Thistlegorm is worth the trip...

i went to sharm in 99, was there for a week and done the thistlegorm twice, it's a must well worth it

done a 54 mtre dive when i was there and could see the waves and bottom very clearly
