Default Any central heating people out there? Help needed..

Guys,

We've been having issues with the central heating for a while now, or more specifically the hot water. I'm no expert where these things are concerned so I could do with some advice; either British Gas (on maintenance plan) aren't understanding what I'm trying to tell them, or I am misunderstanding how the system works.

Anyway.... basically, we only get one tank of hot water per timed 'cycle' on the timer. The hot water is set to come on at 7am and turn off at 10am, so we get ONE tank. If I have a shower at 8am it doesn't replenish until the next timed cycle at 3pm-10pm. If the kids have a bath at 5pm, for instance, we don't get any more hot water until the next morning (ie after 7am next day).

Does that make sense?

I was under the impression that the hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard is thermostat controlled, so if the tank is used at 8am but is timed until 10am it will carry on heating water / replenishing hot water until 10am. Am I correct?

Could this be as simple as a failed thermostat? Its costing me a fortune running the immersion so we can have hot water, not to mention the inconvenience.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
Simon

Does the Thermosatat on the Hot Water Cylinder 'CLICK' when you turn it up?

And then 'CLICK' again when you turn it down?

If so, I would assume it is working.

And yes, the hot water should heat all the time you have programmed it to heat, regardless of what water has been used ...... the water will heat again.

You don't read many of my posts, do you?? They are all useful ...... if you are prepared to listen to words of wisdom, if not - all you see is thoughts you don't agree with (which makes them no less valuable or useful to those who wish to heed them).
