This is what it said in the confirmation email and on the website

Q: What if I want to refund my tickets?
A: You can request a refund for your tickets online by accessing
refunds via 'My Account'
https://www.thetrainline.com/update_...ount_login.asp .A
cancellation fee of GBP 10.00 will be applied. Please note the refund you are
entitled to will depend on the ticket you have
. Please see ticket
restrictions, which can be found within the order status area of 'My
Account'.

so looks like its because of the ticket i bought

only thing is there were only 1 other option.... i paid £80+ each way per ticket. i presume 1st class

i tried getting a refund online but no joy, phoned thetrainline up and they said i could cancel them but wouldnt get a refund due to the type of tickets.
these are the types of tickets i bought

NXEC STD ADVANCE2
NXEC STD ADVANCE4

i bought the tickets a week ago tops!

its only for train tickets

and it reads.....

The sale of all UK train tickets (including Eurostar tickets) by unauthorised persons is not permitted under the railway byelaws, made under Section 46 of the Railways Act 2005. Therefore, unless you are an authorised seller as described below, you may not list train tickets on eBay.

In Ireland, the sale of all train tickets (including LUAS and DART tickets) is not permitted under the relevant railway bylaws.

An authorised person means someone acting in the course of his or her duties who is an employee or agent of the relevant train operator, or any other person authorised by the train operator or a person operating any railway assets.

Any person who is authorised as described above must make it clear in the listing that he or she is authorised to sell train tickets
