For Leslie: I think your migrating birds are returning...
I think Leslie posted last autumn about the sadness of seeing birds leave the UK for sunnier climes in Africa and I posted that where we lived, right on the coast in Southern Spain overlooking (literally) Morrocco we'd seen birds seemingly rest and then disappear as well a few days later (as if they'd flown south, rested, and then flown the sea).
Well, I'm not sleeping at all well at the moment and last night I was laying there at about 4am and i heard this noise...sounded like a duck some distance away...and it was getting gradually noisier and noisier. Our apartment is the penthouse and we are right on the beach and as it's fairly warm here now again we have the bedroom patio doors open so I could see and hear pretty well, even though it was dark. Then, until i realised it wasn't a duck, it was a whole flock of birds, at least 500, flying over the apartment from the sea from Africa all quacking and squarking, and flying in a roughly North direction. What's more, they weren't hanging around, they were really flying at some pace and making a real racket.
It was a really amazing site to see at 4am after a few beers the night before, but I think it means you'll be getting your birds back in the next few days!
