Default Resting heart rate

Just been sitting here for about 15 mins playing with my Polar HRM.
I've had my resting heart rate down to 46bpm for about 10 mins now.
Is this ok, considering my size - 6' 4"
and about 14st. 10lbs. with a bit of wobble in the old stomach dept (only a bit, mind )

What/when is the best time to check resting rate and how should I find my optimal fat-burning rate when I'm out running?
Thanks.

zip106:
According to my g/f who's a personal trainer you're either very fit (TdF 6 time winner Miguel Indurain had RHR of 39), very relaxed or possibly not well. Perhaps see your GP just for the hell of it.

Chip:
Is that your RHR? How would you describe your level of fitness?

mark,
I have got a bit of a cold.

I do remember a few years ago I had to have a tooth out under general anesthetic and the anesthetist (sp) asked me if I was ok because he'd never seen anyone's HR so low/relaxed before going in to surgery. And i was 'ok'.

Ooooo, perhaps I AM fit, then

Or just ill.

Maybe you're a Jedi Knight

But, seriously, for peace of mind see your GP. Get your BP, cholesterol etc checked. This could include stress tests and such.

Age is a factor too!

If all's well, good on yer (as they say over here). Iron Man events beckon.

My RHR is 55bpm, I consider myself pretty fit for my age running a sub 2-hour half marathon and competing in multi-day races.

Resting HR at 60bpm

Blood pressure 121/68

Not bad for someone fighting chronic hypertension lol

Second reading 120/66 HR 59

Here's a good site for heart rates and exercise.

The Truth About the Fat Burning Zone - Your Target Heart Rate

My heart rate monitor came with a graph to calculate your zones for different exercise rates. If I totally relax I can get mine down to 60 but I know i'm not very fit.

Been sitting here doing some work, my RHR is at 54, I'm sure laying in bed it will be under 50! According to that chart I'm an athlete!!

I go to the gym twice a week and normally do 1 hr Spin for cardio, and I find that pretty easy going sometimes. Must be true then!

Your RHR should be taken first thing in the morning, preferably before you have gotten out of bed.
