That is disgraceful.

On a positive note, isn't the little lad super though?

Hope he gets the bravery award.

I think a 12 year sentence is pretty lightas it is

It's alwasy confused me having a "attemped" murder charge - As if not quite succeeding in actually murdering someone when your intention was to do just that should let you off the hook a bit.

"Yeah I stabbed her repeatedly, but as luck would have it I missed one of her vital organs and she survied, so I got 12 years instead of 25, get in"

Criminal attempts usually carry the same sentence as act itself.

Either the report is being sensationalised or it's not att murder.

Welcome to my world, all the same.

Given that he pleaded guilty to attempted murder, and was sentenced for attempted murder, doesn't it follow that it is attempted murder?

I'm really not interested in getting into slanging match with you, and I'm not going to be a part of derailing every thread where you happen to pipe up with a hissy fit, so this ends. Now.

Hissy fit?

Where was that? You were sarcastic, so I retorted.

If I upset you, get over it.

Not my fault you can't accept direct criticism of poor posting.

Can we keep it on topic chaps please.

Sentence seems light considering the crime.

Brave little lad!

That lad deserves all the praise for his brave efforts. Can't believe the sentence for someone who is prepared to carry out an attack like that. The pleading guilty should be neither here nor there when it comes to the sentence anyway.

I note the the govt have now told the judiciary that they should no longer sentence a person to prison for attacking an elderly person with intent. They are saying that a community sentence is adequate! What kind of a message is that to the criminals?

This load of self seeking clowns have no regard for the safety of the people of this country!

Pete, I wish you would stop making the sort of post which encourages FP to keep on trolling!

But if you don't 'reward' crims for pleading guilty, then everyone may as well plead not guilty and huge amounts of extra resources are required to investigate, present evidence, convict every case. A balance has to be struck.

Yup thats a fair point.

I think I still can't understand why "attempted" murder is half the crime actual murder is.
