Default £950 Showroom Tax On Scoobies

Wasn't announce by Darling himself, but it has been said from 2010 Showroom Tax on car producing more than 250g/m2 (or whatever it is) will be hit with a £950 tax, and £455 every year after that.

And that extra money will go on...........................

lets not even think about it.

I love the way they are so sure people owning a 3-4 year old car can easily go out and buy a nice shiny new car with lower emissions. Not when your being taxed through the **** you aint!

From where? I was trying to find out what polluting meant and whether it would be for older cars as well.

Pollution, the enviroment and VED are in NO way related, nor will they ever be. Its just a damn good excuse to squeeze a little more.

On Band G cars (Or whatever the new band will be) the Showroom Tax at buying will be £950.

On renewal of your car Tax the next year, it will then be £455. Unless the Government rise car tax again by then.

When they justify the tax on fuel, they say it's because you should pay more if you pollute more. Which is fair enough.

When they justify the extra road tax on high polluting cars they say exactly the same. Even though by their own admission you are already paying more because of the tax on petrol!

If you download this and scroll to page 131, all will be revealed. Road taxes are going up quite a bit from next year

lol talk about over complicate things just to squeeze a few more quid out of the motorist. Im sure by 2009 the price (as it is with some already) will be absorbed into the price of the purchase of the car, which will trounce all over that clever plan.

Drive a car with a rating over 150 and you will get **** raped, simple. Which is pretty sad really. Especially when all this green green green talk, and all the tax that goes with it amounts to very little in respend on eco friendly things.

How about tax relief to allow people to buy new lower emissions cars. Rather than destroying the aftermarket value, forcing them to keep their polluting cars.

For example, paying through the nose to keep my car on the road for the next 2 years, added to the slaughtered aftermarket value when it becomes undesirable due to running costs...... instead of being able to buy a new car in 2 years time, and maybe opt for a lower emissions vehicle, I will have to keep this car and keep coughing out huge amounts of pollution.... hardly eco friendly policy eh.

So how does encouraging me to get rid of a perfectly good car (in group M) and buy another one benefit CO2 emissions?

And is that a £10 discount for running LPG, or £10 all in?

They don't care about the environment. It's all about the cash... once you accept that you will understand the policy. Simple.

It doesn't. But they hope you do buy a new car thinking you are doing your bit to save the Planet, while giving them 17.5% Tax on the sale price.

Now that would be interesting, VAT relief on the purchase of a low emission car. Now THAT would be an incentive maybe..... If they really cared lol

Is the O.P 1st statement correct?

Do Imprezas have a Co2 emmissions greater than 255?

So, am I right in thinking that this/next year (2008-2009) the higher tax bracket (Band G) only applies to cars registered after 23 March 2006 but then in 2009-2010 the new bands apply to all cars registered after 1 March 2001?

Time to sell my newage and get a classic with full decat then to avoid the huge road tax hike

This is getting really stupid now!

Of course the flip side of this is that it will force manufacturers to develop the same power, but with less emissions.

That only relates to the coming year though 08/09.

Theres a complete overhaul 09/10 where A-M is used. 243 would put it in band L £415 per year with a £750 1st year

Yes but it wont be retrospecitve will it?- I.e. a car bought in 2008 wont all of the sudden become a band L car?
