Right of way dispute with copper!!
Ok i might be in the wrong here, but i don't think i am!
i remember questioning this very junction when i was taking driving lessons and the instructor told me i had right of way, if i have been coming the other way, i have always waited to let any cars cross before i pulled out.
the reason i questioned my instructor was i assumed it was a simple cross roads, but he told me its actually 2 junctions and should be treated as such
lights go green, cars in front of me pull away and cross the road, lorry on the other side waits for cars to pass and filters in, i pull around and see a copper driving towards my front wing blaring his horn
this is approx 3 mins drive from my home and I'm on my way anyway, i know i`m going to get pulled
copper tells me he had right of way, i don't think he has? after all its not a real cross roads IMO, i was already on the road he was turning onto before he left the junction (is it really a junction?)
i explained that i had posed the same question with my instructor years ago and he told me the instructor was wrong.
i suspect that the copper was just talking bollocks to be honest, he gave me a warning and let me go when i explained that i was already on the road before he tried to turn into my wing
no producer, not even a check over the car it was like he realised his mistake and just left me alone
what do you lot reckon?

Interesting one - I would have said the copper had right of way (sorry chap), because he was already on the side of the road, whereas you are turning across traffic to enter the road, thus he should have the option to go first.
That's guesswork though, and I could be wrong but just how I would have interpreted such a junction.

whatever the answer, you don't want to have a crash.
a) crashing is not cool
b) you are more likely to care about your car than however you crash with
c) you have an Impreza, and that does you no favours if the other side decides to twitter on about boy racer type driving style
d) insurance nightmare. Looks like a crossroads from above, but when you look at the arrows then you can see how you were on the main road before he turned in front of you.

a mixed bag of results !
i have to say, i was on the road, with the steering straight ahead BEFORE the copper "nearly drove into me" i was driving quite slowly as well to be honest.
i know if we did crash then the insurance would always go in the coppers favour, but what do you think would happen if it was another member of the public and not a copper?

i have been in cars coming up from the coppers direction before, and the driver has pulled out and had people coming from the other direction blaring horns and kicking off "because they have right of way"

a few years back i was driving up the same street and was stopped for a random check, which ended up with me getting arrested and having a baseball bat confiscated from me
they seam to be pretty hot on baseball bats in that street, i think your theory is flawed

Yup cop has right of way and instructor seriously needs to swat up on his highway code. Although I can see the confusion.
Did your flow of traffic have any filter indicating turn right was good to go?
If the cop also has a green light, it would be assumed he could turn left with no cause to give way. Could actually be an issue that requires the junction to be reconsidered if this is frequent.
Do both directions go to green at the same time?

i think you had right of way.
if you look above where you have written copper, they look like give way signs. Although it may just be my eyesight If you were already turning then i think you are in the right.
the road you are turning onto is the main road the other roads just look like staggered junctions.
i think that junction needs a roundabout

generally people turning left have priority over those turning right (and therefore across the traffic)

Copper has right of way. Its only really one road that is slanted to make it different to your normal crossroads.
I have a similar junction when I leave my waterski club and the number of times Im in the coppers position, both lights go green and the opposite traffic thinks they have right of way. I know I have right of way but I go slow just in case some numpty zips out and causes a crash.
Think I asked the very same question on here about a year ago.

If the main road is running from top right to bottom left (I think it is due to markings in the road) then you have right of way since you are on the road before he turns into it.
He has right of way if the main road runs top left to bottom right.
IMO

Blue arrow has right of way, no doubt.
It's just a simple junction and you're crossing a line of flowing traffic.
Who was your driving instructor? Oliver Reed?

the main road lights are on red, its not "flowing traffic"
the only traffic "flowing" down the road came from my set of lights!!!

You're still WRONG though
Flowing traffic is the line of traffic you're waiting to cross on Borough Rd, surely.
By turning right you have to give way to traffic coming straight over and turning left.
Day 1 stuff. Did you pass your test in the end
You don't explain yourself very well in the initial post anyway. Are your lights allowing you to go shown by a right green signal?

I'd be shocked if it was your right of way, Sticks. As mentioned already, what happens if the Cop decided to go straight on?
I'd be more concerned about the amount of oil both cars are losing to be honest.

It all depends if it's a cross roads and the if the lights work in tandem with the ones on the other side.
I bet it is, and they do, or there's be loads of accidents every day otherwise. The fact that you almost crashed this time shows that the lights must surely work in line with each other as they were all on green to allow you and the car you almost with out at the same time.
