Default Forever Accused

Just be reading this piece on the BBC about false allegations of rape BBC NEWS | Magazine | Forever accused

What I was suprised at was this line:

"an unfounded charge remains on someone's Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) file permanently, which can affect future job prospects."

This also seems to be the case with other accusations (Child abuse with Teachers etc)

What is the world coming to?

True, it is not a great/ideal situation really at all.

In the case of Huntley his previous history may have been a great help in preventing him from working at a school and having unrestricted access to kids and also flagged up theat he was tryting to do this was well. Who knows what could have been prevented if Huntley's civil rights and the freedom on information /data protection act along woth some jobswoth cops/data entry people...

It ain't perfect or fair, then agian how much in life is - but, if it helps stop this sort of thing going on then so be it.

The child abuse one I can understand a little, but not the false rape allegations.

In that article a woman was sentenced for perverting the course of justice.
Why should an allegation remain on the CRB for this case?

I was shocked to see this. If you have been cleared of an accusation, you should have a clean bill and all reference to it obliterated.

You can't have different types of allegations being recorded and others not. That's absolutely mental - It's either all or nothing.

"Yeah we have to keep this crime on record because you have been accused of sexually abusing a 10 year old"

"Actually that's not correct, I was accused of raping a 16 year old and then murdering her with a blunt spoon"

"oh right, in that case, consider it removed"
